Introduction ●Gender bias persists in Engineering faculties, in the state, to

buttress this:

The female staff strength and career levels in institutions are analysed

Numerical discrimination suffered by female engineers in academia is shown

− Data was collected from 3 institutions:

− Imo State University (IMSU)

− Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO)

− Federal Polytechnic Nekede (POLNEK)

●Opportunities available for tutoring Engineering in the country is presented.

Setting the Scene ●Imo State is one of the south eastern states in Nigeria

●Engineering is taught in Universities and Polytechnics

There are 3 Universities and 2 Polytechnics in the state

●2 universities and 1 polytechnic were surveyed.

●Nigeria has 143 registered universities

Majority owned by the Private sector.

140 of them were investigated

University distribution by ownership:

How many of these teach Engineering?

Conclusion ●FUTO had the highest number of women engineers in all

departments.

Numerical strength of female engineers are far less than men in all the institutions

●There is need for more girl child sensitization

Networking and mentoring of young girls

Change the statuesque

●Opportunities for facilitating Engineering lies greatly in private universities.

Below half (41%) Nigerian universities teach engineering.

●What’s the dream of a typical Nigerian girl….
