WARM UP & REMINDERS Today youll be taking your common assessment and turning your expository essays into persuasive essays. Grab a computer and get logged on. Then set it aside. You can place it on the floor or at an empty desk, but it needs to be off of your desk. Make sure you have a writing utensil read to go. Slide 8 THE BODY OF YOUR EDITORIAL Give three reasons why you are taking your stand. 1) Missing an entire class because of a 30-second tardy is not beneficial for students or the school. 2) Students out of class means more work for the teachers. 3) The ISS room is too small to hold a large number of students. Slide 9 THE ARMS OF THE EDITORIAL Support your arguments with evidence and examples. Missing an entire class because of a 30-second tardy is not beneficial for students. School is supposed to be about learning. Sitting in the ISS room writing an inane essay about why you are tardy is not learning. Plus the school could be hurt when students miss valuable class time and TAKS scores drop. Slide 10 THE OTHER ARM OF THE EDITORIAL (OR A LEG DEPENDING ON HOW YOU DO IT) Opposing viewpoints are rebutted. You shut down the opposition. The administration says the new policy will give students the added incentive to get to class on time. Getting out of class is an incentive for many students especially on test day.
