Carleton Legacy and Prejudices

Core authentication is Novell NetWare 6.5

No incumbent Active Directory; Exchange would require a

Novell rip & replace, which might be a good idea, but

probably not achievable by 2007-end

Cyrus IMAP v2.3 for 2500+ students, faculty and academic

staff

Novell GroupWise 7 for 400+ administrative staff

Homegrown mail routing based on MySQL & Sendmail (was

PMDF until it died)

Small IT department, liberal arts focus, popularity of

Gmail among students & alums initially made Google Apps

my first choice, with Cyrus+ (some unknown calendaring

package) my second choice
