W E L C O M E The Tucker Tiger Tip-Off Club welcomes you to the

2010-2011 Tucker High School Basketball Season!

This year promises to be our best yet. We look forward to

another winning season. We are prepared to follow in the

footsteps of the undefeated 2010-2011 Tucker Tiger

football team.

There is so much excitement in the air at THS these days. We’ve

got seniors going to some of the top colleges in the country.

We’ve got a new building and of course…A New Gym!

Our players haven’t had their own gym in two year. But now

we have a state of the art gym to go along with our state of

the art athletes. And we are so proud that you will have the

opportunity to share it with us.

Our players have worked hard to continue the legacy of

excellence that has been established at Tucker High School over

many years. They are focused on continuing to represent the

great Tucker Community.

Thank you to Principal Jackson, Coach Hartry, Coach Potter,

Coach Cooper and Coach Blake… our assistant coaches,

managers and medical staff. Thank you to all of the teachers

who have helped our boys and girls stay focused on education

first. Thank you to the cheerleaders for their “Tucker Spirit”.

Thank you to all of our sponsors and supporters who continue

to be there for us every year. Most importantly, Thank You to

all of the members of the Tip Off Club and every parent of every

player who has allowed your child to be a part of one of the

best basketball programs in DeKalb County. We appreciate your

support and look forward to seeing you in the stands.

LET’S GO TIGERS! Sincerely,

TUCKER TIGER TIP OFF CLUBGEORGIA HARDWOOD GUIDE0 4

Coach James Hartry was born and raised, in Milledgeville, Georgia, to the parents of Worth and Julia Bell Hartry. He is the fifth of six children. He and his wife, Alva, of 26 years, have two children—Adria an occupational therapy graduate student at Florida A & M in Tallahassee, Florida, and Jamie a senior majoring in speech communication and theater at Southern University in Baton Rouge, Lousiana.

Coach Hartry attended public schools in Milledgeville, Georgia, and graduated from Baldwin High School. During his high school career, he played basketball, baseball, and ran track. During his senior year in high school, he was voted an all state basketball player.

After graduation, he attended Piedmont College in Demorest, Georgia, for one year on a basketball scholarship. After attending Piedmont, he transferred and accepted a basketball scholarship from Clark College—now known as Clark Atlanta University. His basketball accomplishments during college include first-team all conference in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) and the first recipient of the L. S. Epps award. He graduated from Clark Atlanta University in 1982 with a Health and Physical Education degree.

Coach Hartry has taught in Dekalb County School System since 1991. He has taught at Rowland Elementary, Avondale Elementary, and now Tucker High School. The highlight of Coach Hartry’s coaching career has been at Tucker High School where he began coaching as an assistant coach in 1997. He accepted a head coach’s position in 2000. His teams have been a final four contestant for four out of five years—winning the championship in 2007. Several of his players have attended division one colleges throughout the country. Coach Hartry gives high regards to academics and believes that education is the key to success!
