Our Pastors will never request your help or financial assistance via e-mail or text. Be aware of hoaxes being perpetuated in which religious leaders are falsely being represented as requesting aid,

contributions from or “discreet discussions” with parishioners. Do NOT respond to such requests!

The Trinity Family extends prayers for comfort and peace to Debby Neighbarger and her family at the death of her father,

Dean Elson, this past Thursday, September 24.

Trinity’s Next Outdoor Worship

Sunday, October 4 at 11:00 am, will be our final outdoor worship in the Wheeler Street Courtyard (weather permitting). You may worship either in person if you are so inclined and are willing to comply with COVID19 social distancing guidelines, or online via YouTube. This service will be live-streamed rather than pre-recorded as are most of our services during the pandemic. As that Sunday is also celebrated as the day to honor St. Francis of Assisi, we will incorporate a blessing of the animals into our worship. Plan to attend and to bring your family’s furry/feathered friends!

Everyone who attends Trinity should be in the church directory

we hope to publish soon. We know that some of you have not

had a picture taken. If that’s you, please call

Cheryl Mays Comen at 253-426-2536 to arrange an informal

photo shoot.

TLCW Monthly Meeting

Prayers For the World

The Trinity Lutheran/Pacific Lutheran University-sponsored PRAYERS FOR THE WORLD Friday morning devotionals have resumed at its usual time of 10:30 am. Instead of being held at the PLU campus, the gatherings are held via Zoom. To access the Friday prayers for the world, interested people should email Pastor Jonette for the link: [email protected].

Return of CONNECT for Youth

Connect gatherings are being held via Zoom. These sessions are led by Kiah Miller, a member of our Trinity community and junior at PLU! We look for her to bring excitement to the youth in this new way of “connecting”. Plan on participating! Interested people should email Pastor Jonette at [email protected] or Kiah MIller at [email protected].

LUTHERAN WORLD RELIEF The good news is that there will be a fall ingathering in Seattle in late October. Because of Covid 19 it will look different in that it will be done by appointment over a four day period. It will be handled there by professional movers rather than the usual volunteers. Only one container will be loaded so there may not be room for everything but other shipments may be added before spring.

The most urgent need right now is for Personal Care Kits. To complete the kits our greatest need is bath towels and soap. Donations may be left in Beth’s office or in the Narthex.

School kits and Personal Care Kits will need assembling. There will be no work parties this time but we would welcome help from individuals or socially distanced pairs. Please call Juanita at 253 531-9183 if you can help or if you have questions.

Thank you all for your continued faithfulness to the work of Lutheran World Relief. We look forward to the day when we can be together in person for worship and fellowship.

Trinity's Garden of Grace Brings Joy

Our grandson Zach has been going to Trinity’s Childcare for the past 3 months and

Loves to go over and check on the fish in the pond and watch the Garden grow. One

day he asked me who owns this garden and I told him it was a community garden and

that people that need to eat can pick what they need. So one day as he watched and

Loved on the pumpkins he said grandma can I have this pumpkin and I told him I

would need to ask. He said but you told me that this was a community garden and

anyone could have what they wanted. So I spoke to Wanda and Jo and they said yes

of course he could pick a pumpkin.

It’s amazing how that pumpkin brought so much Joy to this little boy.

Schedule

Invisible Vegan (September 25)

A 90-minute independent documentary that explores the problem of unhealthy dietary patterns in the African American community, foregrounding the health and wellness possibilities enabled by plant-based vegan diets and lifestyle choices. Directed by Jasmine Leyva.

Speakers include Jasmine Leyva (director), lauren Ornelas (director of the Food Empowerment Project) and the Veggie Mijas (activistas de la tierra). Dolores (September 26) Dolores Huerta is among the most important, yet least known, activists in American history. An equal partner in cofounding the first farmworkers’ unions with Cesar Chavez, her enormous con-tributions have gone largely unrecognized. Dolores tirelessly led the fight for racial and labor jus-tice alongside Chavez, becoming one of the most defiant feminists of the twentieth century — and she continues the fight to this day, at 90. With intimate and unprecedented access to this intensely private mother of 11, the film reveals the raw, personal stakes involved in committing one’s life to social change.

Directed by Peter Bratt. Speakers include Dolores Huerta (legendary farmworker rights activist and focus of the documentary Dolores), Neza Xiuhtecutli (Food Worker Association, Florida), Ildi Carlisle-Cummins (California Institute for Rural Studies), and food justice advocate Alfonzo Chavez (Flowers and Bullets).

Urban Roots (September 27) Follows the urban farming phenomenon in Detroit. A timely, moving and inspiring film that speaks to a nation grappling with collapsed industrial towns and the need to forge a sustainable and prosperous future.

Directed by Frank Fitzpatrick. Speakers include Jacqui Patterson (of the NAACP Environmental and Climate Justice Program) and farmers Jo’Vonna Johnson Cooke (Maitu Foods) and Eugene Cook (Grow Where You Are).

Trinity’s Food Pantry Volunteers invite you to learn more about

food scarcity and injustice in the United States.
