What are some of the trends we are seeing today that you might consider when decorating your own home or preparing it to sell? Certainly one trend is toward simplification. Less clutter is the order of the day - clean, simple lines in furniture and picture placement. Less is best.

For some, this trend toward minimalism presents a problem. Many people have in the past been strongly influenced by the Country Living look - lots of antique furniture, and collections displayed on end tables, mantels and shelves. Wallpaper too was very popular.

Now though we are seeing the emergence of simple displays on table tops and more blank spaces on walls. Paint is in; wallpaper is out. Perhaps you will see a subtle geometric wallpaper design on one accent wall, but that is about it.

Open floor plans are popular today also. People like a nice flow from room to room. They don't like being cut off from family or guests by unnecessary walls. While It is easy enough to knock out a wall, it must first be determined if it is a bearing wall, one that is supporting the ceiling or roof.

There is also a strong trend toward the mid-century modern look when it comes to interior design. Again, the sleek lines are in both furniture and house design. Some prefer a more eclectic look that incorporates this mid-century decor with other pieces that complement the look.
