The characteristics of transportation systems in India and other developing countries are quite different than those of the systems in the developed countries. Additionally, the growth of the transportation engineering is limited because of the many obstructions. Consequently, the challenges faced by the transportation researchers and practitioners are different and often unique to the local conditions. Many researchers and institutions have been working to overcome these challenges and improve the transportation systems in developing countries. This conference on Transportation Planning and Implementation Methodologies for Developing Countries (TPMDC) will serve as an ideal platform to share the findings on the issues more relevant to the developing countries. Many approaches adopted in developing countries are derived from the work done in the developed countries. Thus, the work more relevant to the developed countries can also be presented in the conference. The conference is being organized by the Transportation Systems Engineering (TSE) group at Indian Institute of Technology Bombay—one of the top technical institutes in the world, established in 1958 by the Government of India. The TSE Group —started in 1988 and currently grown to five faculty members and more than thirty graduate students—is known for cutting edge research and involvement in major transportation studies in India. Starting from year 1996, we have biannually conducting international workshop on Transportation Planning and Implementation Methodologies for Developing Countries (TPMDC). On completion of 25 years of TSE group at IIT Bombay, we are organizing TPMDC-2012 as TSE Silver Jubilee International Conference.

BACKGROUND

TPMDC

Abstracts pertaining to one or more of the following topics are invited for the consideration to be presented in the conference. The abstract should be of about 500 words and should be submitted in pdf or MS word format. All submitted abstracts and papers will go through a peer review process and will be short listed accordingly. For submitting abstracts, visit

Registration fee includes registration kit, meals during conference, pickup from and drop-off to Mumbai airport for international participants, and a technical visit. Accommodation can be arranged inside the campus for limited participants at reasonable charges. At least one of the author of accepted paper should register by Oct 31, 2012. For early bird registrations (Deadline Oct 31, 2012), 20 % discount on the registration fee is available. A few fellowships for the participants from developing countries will be offered. The fellowship will include full registration fee waiver, and may also include free accommodation and partial travel support.
