Why is The Renaissance important for a study of US History?

• People became more aware and curious about the world around them (Crusades)

• A desire for more trade led explorers to search for new routes to Asia (Spain, Portugal, England)

• It led to the belief that common people should have representation in law-making bodies.

Why would European governments send people to the New World?

• Get natural resources (timber, furs, etc.)

• Get gold and silver to make more riches for the king

• Markets for manufactured goods

• Get rid of excess population
