JD Edwards Technology Foundation/Blue Stack Announcement

Oracle is simplifying the licensing of the underlying technology required to run JD

Edwards EnterpriseOne. Oracle will no longer offer JD Edwards EnterpriseOne

Technology Foundation (aka “blue stack) to new customers. To minimize business

impact, existing customers can continue to expand their Technology Foundation

licenses with Oracle through December 31, 2013. After this date, customers may

acquire additional licenses of IBM products from IBM. Customers who remain current on technical support

fees will continue to receive technical support on Technology Foundation from Oracle through September 30,

2016. After this date, customers may contact IBM for options on IBM Software Subscription and Support.

Oracle continues to offer Oracle Technology Foundation for JD Edwards EnterpriseOne (aka, “Red Stack”)

and JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Core Tools and Infrastructure. For more information see the Frequently Asked

Questions document. (Oracle Support Credentials Required to access this document)

Oracle offers a migration program to the Oracle Technology Foundation (Red Stack) for customers on the

Blue Stack. Contact [email protected] for more details.

Expiration Dates in EnterpriseOne

JD Edwards EnterpriseOne stores calendar dates in Julian date

format. The system allows two-digit dates to be entered to facilitate

data entry. The system uses data dictionary item CENTCHG

(CenturyChangeYear) to determine the century to use for populating

data tables. The system also uses this data dictionary item when

automatically populating the default effective through and expiration

dates in some data tables.

In releases Xe and ERP8.0, the default value for CENTCHG was set to 10. Thus dates populated using the

CENTCHG default value are created as „12/31/2010‟. In release 8.9, the default value was set to 15, creating a

date of „12/31/2015‟. In releases 8.10 through 9.0, the default value was set to 40, creating a date of

„12/31/2040‟. Oracle recommends that this value be increased for users in the Xe, ERP8.0, and 8.9 releases as

well as users who have upgraded from these releases to 8.10 or higher so that the software will supply new

effective through dates further into the future.

This document outlines the function of CENTCHG in the software and recommends a change to the

CENTCHG data dictionary default as soon as possible. This document also introduces the Date Utility, a tool

designed to assist users with identifying and resolving business data with potential date issues. The Date

Utility is designed for use with the currently supported tools releases.

For more details, refer to E1: 00: JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Default Century Dates – CENTCHG [ID

Debunking IFRS Myths

From CFO.com – Experts expose seven misconceptions about international financial

reporting standards. Read the article here…

Trimming the Fat of Labor Management

An excellent article by Stephen Jannise, ERP Market Analyst from SoftwareAdvice.com.

Excerpt - “Motivation, flexibility, and direct management must all be present

if a lean environment is going to be sucessful. When workers are assuming

more responsibilities than ever before, management must start taking a more

personable and inspirational approach to labor management. If workers are

asked to stop functioning like machines and start thinking critically, they

must be treated differently as well.”
