Abstract To compete better companies have to overcome complexity and uncertainty along their supply chain.
Even more, in the face of the ongoing global economic downturn in which most companies are facing
shrinking sales volume that force them to lay off most of their employees, it is a known fact that the way
to maintain continuity of operation lies in cutting cost, reduce inventory, and rendering the organization
efficient and effective as possible. Now days many companies are now considering implementation of
lean and agile methodologies. In as much as product durability, adaptability, and reliability are crucial for
consideration then businesses must invest heavily on competitive driving forces such as Speed, Quality,
Flexibility, Efficiency, Innovation, Responsiveness and Time to market. (Yusuf et al., 2012) have
identified these factors as competitive foundations of agility. However, in order to meet challenges and
stay competitive in business the researcher embarks on explorative research in developing a supply chain
strategy that incorporates these factors. The result shows that companies with lean and agile
methodologies perform better in adding value to the supply chain.
