Page 1: Student Engagement Through Digital Timelines in a History

DIPITY is a great way to engage student participation in learning about complex

events. DIPITY is a digital timeline program in which groups of individuals can

construct a timeline together. Members of the group can post events to the

timeline and then add graphics, text or even audio. All the students can view and

comment on the timeline as it is being developed. I use DIPITY in my history

classes but it can be used for any subject to learn about sequential events. For

example, the steps to a medical procedure or a lab experiment. Another great

aspect of the program is that the finished product can be viewed all at once as a

timeline or sequentially as a flipbook. I have found that students really enjoy the

chance to get involved in creating a lecture themselves with DIPITY.
