Life & Culture EditorAdvancing from the position of assistant editor, my responsibilities include managing all feature aspects of The Ithacan’s Life & Culture (formerly Accent) section. Duties include managing a staff of over 60 writers, identifying and assigning stories on a weekly basis and communicating with other sections and managerial staff to ensure the section successfully meets its deadline.

Assistant Life & Culture Editor (Winter 2013 to Present)Currently oversee the assignment, page-creation and publishing of all non-feature aspects of The Ithacan’s Life & Culture (formerly Accent) section, including movie, music, art and theater reviews. The position has honed my skills in team-building, cooperation, time management and person-to-person communication, especially in a newsroom setting.

Staff Writer (Fall 2012 to Winter 2013)Review and longer-form feature writing on the award-winning weekly newspaper. My experiences in this position sharpened both my speaking and communication skills, as well as laying a stable foundation for my positions as an editor. Though promoted, I am still an active writer and have published over 30 pieces during my time with the publication.

With The Departmental Disciplinary Committee, First Judicial Department:

Legal intern (June – Aug. 2013)Responsible with reading and summarization of claims sent to the office’s appellate division. This position demanded careful reading of lengthy case reports, along with learning a legal lexicon which I had not been familiar with before. During my time, I independently produced objective abstracts of each case I was assigned to, all while maintaining a timely work-flow.

Ithaca College:Rod Serling Communications Scholarship (Aug. 2012)Four-year scholarship awarded to students enrolled in the Roy H. Park School of Communications who demonstrate outstanding writing ability.
