STEPS TO CREATE POWER CUBE USING TRANSFORMER WITH

FM MODEL (PACKAGE) AS DATA SOURCE

Before working with Transformer make sure that 1. Your FM Model is created with all the layers and respective tables imported from the database and2. The FM Model is PUBLISHED as a package.ThenGo to start menu Programs IBM Cognos 10 Transformer IBM Cognos Transformer.

Click on Create New Modelgive your model name select the datasource type as package (as we are using the FM Model as our data source and hence the published package has to be selected) NextOther data sources can be seen in the dropdown viz.. Already created reports, Packages(FM Model), .iqd files, excel files, .csv files , Flat files etc…select the particular package by clicking on Browse and locate your package from the Public folders/ My folders tab click nextchange the Query name as you requirein the source window expand the presentation layer to view the DIM & FACT tablesStep 1: Select each DIM query subject (DIM Table) and each FACT query subject (FACT table) INDIVIDUALLY (Do not select all the tables at once) and click Add you can select the DIM completely for all columns or expand the DIM and select only the required columns. CLICK Validate you should get the message “Validation is Successful”click CANCELClick OK IMP: REMOVE THE TICK MARK BESIDE RUN AUTO DESIGN OPTION AND THEN Click FinishReason: If the Run Auto Design is checked then COGNOS automatically identifies all numeric query items (columns) as Measures (Facts).To add more Queries Click Yes in the next alert window that asks for Add another Query from the package “your package Name”.Repeat Step 1 for all the DIM and FACT query subjects (Tables) that you require.When all the DIM and FACT query subjects have been added then click No in Add another Query from the package “your package Name”.Now all the Query Subjects DIM & FACT that are required are available in the Data Sources Window on the bottom left.Rename them now if you have not given business names while creating initially.You should see Project, Site, Time , Fct Fin Actual , Fct Fin Fcast (Names can differ but 3 DIM & 2FACTS must be seen in the Data Sources window )The Transformer has FIVE windows in Total: as shown belowDimension Map

Data Sources Measures Power Cubes Custom ViewsTo get this view from any view Go to Menu Bar WindowArrange By Default.Now Right click on the Dimension Map window and select Date Wizard optionEnter Name as “Time” click NextSelect the respective column (in our projectDAY_DATE) select YES for years (default) select yes for kind of calendar years 365 or 366 days (default) select YES for Quarter (default) select YES for months (default) select NO for Week (default) select NO for Days (default) Enter the format of a date of a particular year for the format settingselect NO for Generate Categories (default) click Finish.

The Time Dimension must have appeared in the Dimension Map Window with the hierarchies as Year, Quarter, Month .To create other Dimensions as BU & SITEIn the Data Sources windowexpand Project Select BUDrag BU,Vertical,Client,Program,Project_SK and Drop them one below the other in the Dimension Map on the bar beside TimeIMP: double click on Project_SK and tick the UNIQUE Key check box WITHOUT FAILclick OK (if any warnings are shown its just because you defined it as UNIQUE KEY just click OK)In the Data Sources windowexpand SiteSelect SiteDrag Country,Region,State,City,Site_Sk and Drop them one below the other in the Dimension Map on the bar beside TimeIMP: double click on Site_SK and tick the UNIQUE Key check box WITHOUT FAIL. click OK (if any warnings are shown its just because you defined it as UNIQUE KEY just click OK)NextFor Time Dimension the OrderBy property is already set as DAY_DATE and Default SortOrder =Ascending and Default SortAs=Numeric (date is considered as Numeric by COGNOS)You have to set value of the Sort-By column for OrderBy property of each Dimension other than Time Dimension.To set this property double click on each of the Dimension and level like BU,Vertical etc… upto Project_SK and Country, Region,state etc upto Site_sk andThen select OrderBy tab click Addselect the respective column and clickOK. Observe that the SortOrder is Ascending and SortAs =Alphabetic for all Dimensions other than Time.Now Select the Fct Fin Actual (Actual FACT Query Subject (Table)) from the Data Sources window and drag the required facts/measures into the Measures window .IMP: drag only measures (all or selected ones as per requirement)

All the dragged MEASURES appear in the Measures WindowThe click on the “check model icon” placed below “help”.No errors shud be shown.

Then click on the “Show Diagram icon” placed below the security option of the File Menu.Goto the last level of BU dimension until u reach the Project_SK right click on it and select the suppress option (By doing this Project_sk will not be shown in the hierarchy)Similarly Goto the last level of SITE dimension until u reach the Site_SK right click on it and select the suppress option (By doing this Site_sk will not be shown in the hierarchy)

Then click on “Generate categories icon” placed below “Help” if any warnings are shown click OK.Then Click on “Create Power Cube icon” placed below “Help”After the cube is created it is shown in the Power Cubes window.Double click on the newly created Power cube and goto the Measures tab where all the measures selected previously should appear here.You can include or exclude these measures as you like. Defaultly they are included. right click on the included option and select Exclude if you want to exclude this measure.

NOW Right click on the newly created power cube and select the option “Publish Power cube as Data Source and Package” click OK.Click Next Next go down and click on Test Connection you should see Succeeded click close again closego down click Finish.Click OK. Select the folder where you want to place the cube for future use. Click Next click Finish.You will get a message that published successfully. Click OK.

THE NEWLY PUBLISHED POWER CUBE WILL BE AVAILABLE IN THE COGNOS CONNECTION FOR CREATING REPORTS.
