they moved to Newton, NC

as I knew how to swim prettywell, my first job was

lifeguarding at a communitypool – it was such a cushjob I did it a lot until I had

to find real work

I was senior class presidentand gave the speechat commencement

rather than pay out-of-statetuition, I transferred to UGA

where I had a job…yup, lifeguarding

…so I stayed putand got my MBA at UGA

I love to shop,so why not get

paid to buy

when Richway gotbought – I figured pens

& pencils would beinteresting…not so

I followed them and yes,lifeguarded at thecommunity pool

band was pretty big so I taughtmyself how to play the sax - I was

considered pretty good in Newton,but learned that wasn’t the real yardstick

it was 1982 when Igraduated and there

was a recession…
