PreCious metaLsa precious metal is a rare metal of high economic value. Precious metals react differently from most other metals; they have a high lustre, are softer and more ductile and have higher melting points. gold, silver, platinum and palladium are the most common precious metals.

siLVerfine silver (99.9%) is generally too soft for the production of jewellery; therefore silver is usually alloyed (mixed) with other metals to improve its strength while at the same time preserving the ductility and lustre of the precious metal. Sterling silver 925 is the most widely used silver alloy which contains at least 925/1000 fine silver.

goLd 24 k gold is very soft and therefore alloyed with another metal to be used for the production of jewellery. This process alters the fineness, hardness, ductility, melting point and colour of the gold. Copper is the most widely used alloy metal and lends jewellery a reddish tone.

sPinning JeWeLry • We produce jewellery in Sterling silver and 8/9/10 K gold. • However, our silver jewellery is often finer than Sterling with a content of up to 95% silver. • Our 8 K gold (hallmark 333) is an alloy with at least 333/1000 pure gold. the remaining metal is copper which lends the gold a characteristic reddish tone. • Our 9 K gold (hallmark 375) is an alloy with at least 375/1000 pure gold. the remaining metal is copper which lends the gold a characteristic reddish tone. • Our 10 K gold (hallmark 417) is an alloy with at least 417/1000 pure gold. the remaining metal is copper which lends the gold a characteristic reddish tone. • Almost all ring bands of our Gold rings are hollow and the ring size cannot be altered.

goLd PLating & siLVer PLatinggold and silver plating are methods used to deposit a thin layer of gold or silver on a surface of silver or other type of metal. the piece is immersed into a bath of liquid gold or silver to which a current is applied. the ions in the liquid then ”attack” the surface and cover the piece with a thin layer of gold or silver. time as well as amperage decide the thickness and colour of the plating.

sPinning JeWeLry • All our silver jewellery is silver plated with fine silver (99.9% silver), and the thickness of the fine silver layer is 1 - 3 microns, depending on the product. • Our gold plated products are plated with 14 K and the thickness is approx. 1 micron. • The gold, silver or rhodium plating will wear off in time, depending on the use and treatment of the jewellery.

tarnishsilver and 8/9/10 k gold react in contact with air, perfumes, soaps, etc. and gets tarnished, which is a natural process.Tarnished silver has a grey or black layer. When used regularly, the jewellery is ”polished” to produce a fine patina. tarnished jewellery is not to be confused with oxidised jewellery which has been given a dark coating.

enameLenamelling occurs when colourful, pulverised glass is melted with a surface. the powder and surface are hea-ted to 750-850°C. the powder melts, becomes liquid and hardens to a uniform, durable coating on surfaces such as metal, glass or ceramic. the enamel technique dates back to antiquity.

sPinning JeWeLry • We use cold enamelling for all enamel jewellery. Cold enamelling consists of a chemical powder mixed with a liquid which is then applied to the jewellery with a brush. heating is applied to harden the enamel. • Cold enamelling is more shock-absorbing than ordinary glass enamel and does not crack as easily if the jewellery is dropped.

PearLsPearls are produced in live molluscs as a defence against an irritant inside the shell. the mollusc forms a pearl by depositing mother-of-pearl around the irritant.

there are two types of pearls: natural pearls and cultured pearls. natural pearls are created spontaneously in nature without any human intervention. they are rare and therefore very valuable.

Cultured pearls are produced artificially with the help of humans who insert shell beads in the mollusc. the beads are then covered by several layers of mother-of-pearl before being removed from the mollusc. Cultured pearls are often produced in freshwater (freshwater pearls) and are available in many colours, sha-pes and sizes.

oXidation

Oxidation is a chemical process, defined as the interaction between oxygen molecules and the different substances they may contact, from metal to living tissue.the aesthetic outcome of the process of oxidation depends on the amount of oxygen present in the air and the nature of the material it touches.on our silver jewelry we utilize oxidation to create different cosmetic looks on the surface. a medium or light oxida-tion gives the surface a more contrasted look whereas full oxidation creates a deeper, homogeneously grey and black color tone. Because the oxidation is at once chemical process and a manual production, the surface of different oxidized pieces may vary slightly.depending on the use, treatment and storage of the jewelry, the look and the surface may change over time. typically the fully oxidized pieces (grey/black color tone) will get lighter by use, while the light and medium oxidation will maintain the same look for a longer time.

stones and gemsa precious stone or a semiprecious stone is a piece of attractive, rare mineral which, when cut and polished, is used for jewellery. diamonds, rubies, sapphires and emerald are always precious stones while other stones with less hardness and lustre are called semiprecious stones. the latter is often cut with few facets or as a smooth cabochon.

synthetiC stonestoday, most stones can be created synthetically in a laboratory. synthetic stones are not imitations. a synthetic or natural stone has the same characteristics but the synthetic stones often have clearer colours and no inclusions.

Cubic zirconia (cz) is a synthetic diamond imitation. the imitation copies the diamond’s appearance and colour but does not have the same chemical or physical properties (often, its hardness is reduced). Cubic zirconia is produced in many different colours.

An artificial gemstone is also produced synthetically but it does not look like or imitate a natural gemstone.

e-Coatinge-coating is a seal treatment of the jewelry, used to postpone the tarnishing process. to keep the seal intact as long as possible, please do not treat or clean the e-coated jewelry, as this will destroy the coated surface and tarnish will appear below the coating.

edeLmetaLLeein edelmetall ist ein seltenes metall mit einem großen wirtschaftlichen Wert. edelmetalle reagieren anders als die meisten anderen metalle: sie haben einen höheren glanz, sind weicher und duktiler und haben höhere schmelzpunkte. gold, silber, Platin und Palladium sind die gebräuchlichsten edelmetalle.

siLBerfeinsilber (99,9 %) ist im allgemeinen zu weich für die fertigung von schmuck. darum wird silber für gewöhnlich mit anderen metallen legiert (gemischt), um seine festigkeit zu erhöhen, ohne jedoch der duktilität und dem glanz des Edelmetalls Abbruch zu tun. 925er Sterlingsilber ist die am häufigsten verwendete Silberlegierung, die mindestens 925/1000 feinsilber enthält.

sPinning JeWeLry • Wir fertigen Schmuck aus Sterlingsilber und 8/9/10 K Gold. • Unser Silberschmuck ist jedoch mit einem Silbergehalt von bis zu 95 % oft feiner als Sterlingsilber. • 8 K Gold (Hallmark 333) ist eine Legierung mit mindestens 333/1000 purem Gold. Bei dem restlichen metall handelt es sich um kupfer, das dem gold einen charakteristischen rötlichen ton verleiht. • Unsere 9 K gold (Hallmark 375) ist eine Legierung mit mindestens 375/1000 purem Gold. Bei dem restlichen metall handelt es sich um kupfer und silber, die dem gold eher einen rosa oder gelblichen ton verleihen. • Unsere 10 K gold (Hallmark 417) ist eine Legierung mit mindestens 417/1000 purem Gold. VergoLden und VersiLBern Vergolden und Versilbern sind Methoden mit deren Hilfe eine dünne Schicht Gold oder Silber auf der Oberfläche von Silber oder einer anderen Metallsorte angebracht wird. Das Metall wird in ein Bad mit flüssigem Gold oder Silber getaucht, das unter strom gesetzt wird. Die Ionen des flüssigen Metalls „greifen“ dann die Oberfläche an und bedecken das Metall mit einer dünnen Lage Gold oder Silber. Die Dicke und Farbe der Auflage ist sowohl von der Zeit als auch von der Stromstärke abhängig.

anLaufen8 k gold und silber können reagieren, wenn sie in kontakt mit Luft, Parfüm, seifen usw. kommen. sie laufen an, was ein natürlicher Prozess ist. auf angelaufenem silber liegt ein grauer oder schwarzer film. Wenn der schmuck regelmäßig getragen wird, wird er „poliert“ und es entsteht eine feine Patina. Angelaufener Schmuck sollte nicht mit oxidiertem schmuck verwechselt werden, auf dem sich ein dunkler überzug gebildet hat.

sPinning JeWeLry • Unser E-Coated Schmuck (Ringe), der ausschliesslich zur Deko auf Ihren Möbeln oder Displays ein- gesetzt werden soll, erhält eine anlaufschutz-Beschichtung um ein schnelles anlaufen des schmucks zu vermeiden. • Der Anlaufschutz ist eine chemische Beschichtung. Der Schmuck wird in ein Bad mit der Flüssigkeit, die unter strom gesetzt wurde, getaucht. das Verfahren ist also dasselbe, wie beim Versilbern/Vergolden. • Die Beschichtung nutzt sich, je nach Nutzung und Behandlung des Schmucks, mit der Zeit ab.

PfLege• Unsere versilberten und vergoldeten Produkte können poliert und mit Hilfe von Ultraschall gereinigt werden. • Produkte ohne Perlen, Emaille und farbige Steine können in ein Silbertauchbad getaucht werden. dabei besteht jedoch das risiko, dass sie verfärben. • Vergoldete Produkte sollten nicht poliert werden. Sie können mit Hilfe von Ultraschall gereinigt werden. • Wir raten davon ab, vergoldete Produkte in ein Silbertauchbad zu tauchen.• Unsere 8 K Goldprodukte können mit Hilfe von Ultraschall gereinigt werden.

emaiLLeEmaillierung nennt man den Prozess, wenn farbiges, pulverisiertes Glas mit einer Oberfläche verschmolzen wird. Das Pulver und die Oberfläche werden auf 750-850°C erhitzt. Das Pulver schmilzt, wird flüssig und härtet zu einer gleichmäßigen, haltbaren Beschichtung auf Oberflächen wie Metall, Glas oder Keramik. die technik des emaillierens geht zurück bis in die antike.

sPinning JeWeLry • Wir emaillieren unseren Schmuck kalt. Beim kalten Emaillieren wird ein chemisches Pulver mit einer flüssigkeit vermischt und anschließend mit einem Pinsel auf dem schmuck angebracht. Zum härten der emaillierung wird sie erhitzt. • Kaltes Emaillieren ist stoßbeständiger als die gebräuchliche Glasemaille und bricht nicht so schnell, falls der schmuck fällt.

PerLenPerlen entstehen in lebenden Weichtieren zum schutz vor reizstoffen im innern der muschel. die Weichtiere bilden eine Perle, indem sie eine Perlmutter um den reizstoff legen. es gibt zwei sorten Perlen: naturperlen und Zuchtperlen. naturperlen werden spontan ohne menschliches eingreifen in der natur geschaffen. sie sind selten und daher sehr kostbar.

Zuchtperlen werden künstlich mit hilfe von menschen produziert, die ein transplantat in das Weichtier ein-bringen. das transplantat wird dann mit mehreren schichten Perlmutter überzogen, bevor es aus dem Weichtier entfernt wird. Zuchtperlen werden oft in süßwasser produziert (süßwasserperlen) und sind in vielen farben, formen und größen erhältlich.

oXidation

oxidation ist ein chemischer Vorgang, bei dem sauerstoffmoleküle eine Verbindung eingehen mit den stoffen, mit denen sie in kontakt kommen, und das kann von metall bis zu lebendem gewebe praktisch jeder sein.das ästhetische ergebnis der oxidation hängt von der menge des in der Luft enthaltenen sauerstoffs sowie dem material, mit dem er in kontakt kommt, ab.

Bei unserem Silberschmuck setzen wir die Oxidation ein, um die verschiedensten Oberflächeneffekte zu erzielen. Eine leichte bis mittlere Oxidation verleiht der Oberfläche einen stärkeren Kontrast, während eine stärkere Oxidation einen tieferen, gleichmäßig grauen bis schwarzen farbton erzeugt. Weil die Oxidation sowohl ein chemischer Vorgang ist als auch von Hand durchgeführt wird, kann die Oberfläche ver-schiedener oxidierter schmuckstücke leicht unterschiedliche töne aufweisen.Abhängig von der Verwendung, Behandlung und Lagerung des Schmucks können sich sein Aussehen und die Oberfläche im Laufe der Zeit verändern.

typischerweise werden voll oxidierte stücke (mit grau-schwarzen farbtönen) durch Benutzung etwas heller, während der schmuck mit leichter bis mittlerer oxidation längere Zeit sein aussehen bewahrt.

steine und edeLsteineein edelstein oder ein halbedelstein ist ein ansprechendes, seltenes mineral, das, nachdem es geschliffen und poliert wurde, für schmuck verwendet wird. diamanten, rubine, saphire und smaragde sind immer edelsteine, während andere, weniger harte und glänzende steine halbedelsteine genannt werden. Letztere werden oft mit weniger facetten oder mit einem glatten Cabochon-schliff geschliffen.

heutzutage können die meisten steine künstlich im Labor hergestellt werden. kunststeine sind keine nachahmungen. kunst- und natursteine haben dieselben eigenschaften, kunststeine haben jedoch oft klarere farben und keine einschlüsse.

Cubic Zirkonia (CZ) ist eine synthetische diamant-imitation. die imitation ahmt das aussehen und die farbe des diamanten nach, hat jedoch nicht dieselben chemischen und physikalischen eigenschaften (sie hat oft eine geringere härte). Cubic Zirconia wird in vielen unterschiedlichen farben hergestellt.

auch ein künstlicher edelstein wird synthetisch gefertigt, sieht jedoch nicht wie ein natürlicher edelstein aus und ahmt auch keinen edelstein nach.

eLektrotauChLaCkierungelektrotauchlackierung ist ein Verfahren zur Versiegelung des schmucks mit einer Beschichtung, die das anlaufen für längere Zeit hinauszögern soll. um diese Versiegelung so lang wie möglich zu erhalten, bitte mit elektrotauchlackierung behandelten schmuck nicht reinigen oder anderweitig behandeln, weil dadurch die Beschichtung angegriffen wird und das metall unter ihr anläuft.
