Once a year, it’s time toReward your staff for their hard work and show how much you appreciate them with a christmas party.
Here are our tips fororganisers to make surethe event goes with a bang.
1. Deadlines
Deadlines are distinctly un-fun, but they get things done! If you set deadlines for RSVPs and menu choices, you’re much more likely to get a response.
‘Save the date’ emails area great tool to book party goers before you’ve got all the details sorted out.
2. Be A Dictator
Asking for opinions on what day the party should be held or what theme people would like may seem like a nice idea, but can open up a Pandora’s box of demands.
3. Don’t Invite EveroneBe clear if husbands/wives or clients aren’t invited - if the budget won’t stretch, it’s best that everyone knows in advance.
4. VenueOne thing’s for sure - getting out of the office encourages people to have fun and forget work, so book a venue if budget permits.
Try to choose somewhere with good public transport links so everyone can get a little tipsyand still get home!
5. Create A Party Atmosphere
We can’t believe how manymagazines at this time of year run articles advising people ‘make sure to stay sober at the office Christmas party’ or ‘don’t dress in anythingtoo revealing or comfortable’.
We think those writers need to look up the word ‘party’ in the dictionary! Just because you putthe word ‘offce’ in front of itdoesn’t change its meaning.
6. EncourageEnthusiasm
It’s a sad fact that we don’t all love the people we work with. But if you’re the organiser, do what you can to make sure people can have fun and let their hair down.
The best way to do this is to set the tone yourself - be excited, and the enthusiasm will spread.
7. Provide Food And DrinksIt’s important to provide both food and drink. Not everyone drinks alcohol, and these guests won’t appreciate a boring bar crawl with drunks.
Food also ensures your party-minded guests will avoid getting too tipsy to enjoy themselves.
8. Give GiftsBranded mementoes are a lovely way to build company pride and help people remember your Christmas party.
Consider gold cufflinks and silver cufflinks for long-serving staff members.
9. Hold A Prize Giving
A prize giving for top performers in every department - for both managers and lower level employees - is a lovely way to show your gratitude for the hard work your staff have put in over the year.
Unusual gifts like engraved cufflinksare an exclusive memento whichrecognise your employee’s achievement. A short thank you speech from a manager will be much appreciated.
10. But Above All....Organise the party on a Friday night, orbefore the Christmas break!
Nobody wants to come into the officehungover and tired the day after the party.
