MUPRSSA First Quarter We kicked off the semester with an informational meeting detailing our chapter’s plans for this semester (see left column). Our first event took place on Wednesday, Oct. 6. Evan Zeppos, owner of Zeppos & Associates PR Agency, and John Rumpf, director of marketing communications at Baird, spoke to us about the differences between working in a corporation versus public relations agency. Students learned what steps to take to land their first internship and ultimately land a job in public relations. Evan and John actively answered all members’ questions and many students had positive feedback to provide about the event.

We are excited to meet for the first time as a formal chapter comprised of all our paid members at our next meeting on Oct. 27. Students who have not paid will unfortunately not be able to attend the meeting, so make sure you get your membership form and chapter fee turned into Dr. Gee Ekachai’s mailbox or emailed to [email protected] by Oct. 25.

Are you going home for fall break? To be a part of our chapter and upcoming events you must be a paid member by Oct. 25. Fall break is the perfect time to ask your parents for a check to turn in your membership form the Monday we get back!

E-board Attends PRSSA National Conference

This year we are facilitating three new programs in our chapter’s plans. We will announce a new member of the month based on a point system, host a social media challenge and start a new mentor/mentee program between PRSSA members.

Member of the Month:

Every member will be in the running to become PRSSA’s member of the month based on a point system. We will set in place

E-board traveled to Washington D.C. and learned new ways to advance Marquette’s chapter

different amounts of points for specific tasks members take on throughout the month. At the end of each month, the member with the most points will be awarded member of the month, receive a prize and gain experience as our guest blogger.

Social Media Challenge:

Ready. Set. Tweet away! Each member will get a point for every retweet or reply they send to @marquettePRSSA. In addition, members will receive a point for any comments left on our facebook

page. At the end of the challenge the member with the most tweets/comments will receive a fun social media themed prize.

Mentor/Mentee Program:

Members will be assigned an e-board member as their personal student mentor for the year. Mentees can utilize this opportunity to gain insights on how e-board members landed their first internships, ask for class help or ask any questions they have about the PR field in a more intimate setting.

Apply to the future of Marquette: GoldinPR Student-Run PR Firm

become a member! E-board members Alexis Dremonas and Kate Newman started the planning process to launch Marquette University’s first student run public relations firm. The firm will be 100% student run allowing students to work directly with clients in the greater Milwaukee area and throughout Marquette University’s campus. The students will implement public relations skills by writing various publications while working toward successfully promoting the client. This will give our members a chance to experience the inner workings of a public relations agency at the University level. Look out for applications to apply for our limited positions at the next PRSSA meeting on Oct. 27!
