Class WritingPlanning a Party
Pretend that you are Ken. You are calling Alex to have a party. Think what should you say on the phone. Let’s go back to the Text 6.1 first to see how
the ideas are organized and presented.
Opening speech on the phone Hello. May I speak to Sally, please? Hi, Sally. This is Candy. Are you going to talk about our boat trip? Have you gone through the maps and
information brochure of the islands? Which island have you chosen?
Candy’s idea How about taking a boat trip to Cheung Chau
Island? It’s only an hour’s ferry ride. It’s a beautiful island. We can either sunbathe or relax on beautiful
Tung Wan beach. There will be the sound of the sea lapping on
the shore. I like to hear the sound of waves. What do you think?
Sally’s idea Fantastic! It will be even more exciting if we can go on
the day of the Bun Festival. There will be more activities and it will be
exciting to watch the float procession. Shall I ask Mary if she likes this idea?
Mary’s idea Hmmm. Not a bad idea. But if you want to enjoy the beautiful scenery,
then we should be going to Lamma Island. There are cute little villages like Yung Shue
Wan and Sok Kwu Wan for us to explore. There’s a family trail linking these two village
s. We can walk along the coastline. If we have enough money, we can even have
a good seafood meal.
Sally’s idea Great! I’m also interested in Lantau Island w
hich is the biggest island with very stunning scenery.
The hiking trails are popular among hiking teams.
If we like, we can have a vegetarian lunch.
Conclusion Oh, dear! This is tough. Whose idea shall we choose? How are we going to decide as these three
islands are all so wonderful? It’s really difficult to decide. We’ll have to meet with our classmates and
put it to a vote. I’ll discuss this with Candy.
Closing speech Okay. See you then. Bye!
