Test Photos and DevelopmentFor my portrait fine art photo, I will be using a female model. I wanted to use a female who is older as I wanted to experiment on how I can produce a fine art portrait photo. I intend to use effects with glitter and test how it can work with different lighting and using the settings on the camera as well. For example, iOS, shutter speed and aperture. I have been looking at Tyler Shields work on fine art portrait photography and I found it very interesting. I like the way he experiments with certain styles. He uses a diverse set of styles and a range of ages in his work and I wanted to set the task of experimenting my self with this type of photography.

Test Photos and Development

First, I wanted to play around with lighting and how it can effect the models appearance. I also got the model to mess her hair up as in Tyler Shields photos, he makes his models look crazy and absurd. I tried to experiment with the shutter speed and how long it was on for to try and get a certain effect. In the photos, I tried to see how the IOS, Shutter speed and aperture works and experimented to see how it works when taking photos of a model indoors. I feel I need to improve on how lighting works inside an how natural light is weaker inside then outside.

Test Photos and Development

I got the model to change position and look certain ways to see how I could use it for my final photo. I also played around with getting closer and further away to see how that could effect the photo. I feel as if the closer up to the model, the more it stands out. I feel this is because when looking at the image, you are set closer to the model and it sets of more feelings e.g. uncomfortable or getting into someone's personal zone which makes them think about the photo more and looks at the image longer then when the photo is further away.

Test Photos and Development

I like the way Tyler Shields focus’s on the lips and how they can interpret different styles of art and actions. I like the way he uses smoke and glitter which causes the image of the photo to look destructive as he is trying to set a message. In mine, I want to the message to be on the line of being of a older person, but they can still show their beauty from within and how they feel about them selfs.

Test Photos and DevelopmentI wanted to test the hair style on the model. I wanted half her face to be covered to cover half her identity. I felt like it could be a message as in hiding who we are but then we hold the beauty inside us of who we are ( which will be the glitter).I feel it is important to have a message in the portrait photo as it will let the viewer think what its about and why it it taken in this way. I still need to improve on lighting and I need to change the background of the model. I feel lighting is very importing for this type of style of fine art.

Test Photos and Development

I played around with lighting and how it effected the settings on the camera. I also wanted to see how it would effect the model. I felt if the background was dark and the model was lit up by a small light from the bottom, it would make the model look to creepy and look as if in a horror scene. I feel I need to have the model brightened up and to have that set focus on what the message is in the photo. I set the IOS low and made the shutter speed slower to have the image more brighter.

Test Photos and DevelopmentIn these photos, I experimented on close ups of the models mouth with glitter. I added more glitter in the end because I wanted the more of a effect. I like the way the glitter had the effect of running down the models face, I feel this gave of a more interesting effect. I feel as if I will have the model look forward towards the camera for the final shot because I want the photos to be more intimidating. I tried a different background in these photos but I feel it pulled to much focus away from the model which I did not like.

Test Photos and Development

In these final images, I got the model to look forward and used a white background. I got the model to spit the glitter out and took a range of shots to see how it will turn out for the final shot. I felt it worked out well and I know how to take the image for the final shot. The glitter can be brighten up in after effects and I might use photo shop to add more of an effect to the glitter. If I do feel that the background does need to be dark or just black, I will also do this in Photoshop and light room. When using the camera settings, I need to focus on the IOS being a bit higher. I don’t want the glitter to be blurred so I will use a fast shutter speed to capture it in detail.

Final Photo

This is my final portrait photo. I used the shutter speed on 1/800, I used IOS 800 and a aperture of 11f. I like how the glitter effect works in this image. When I edit this photo I may crop it to just have a focus on the lips and glitter. My next set is to figure out how I will use adobe light room with this image and how I can use the tools I learnt on Photoshop to make the glitter effect more effective. I also need to figure out if I am going to crop the image down or if I will use the full face of the model. I feel I am heading towards cropping the image as I feel it will have more of an effect of the message I want to show.

Final Photo

This is a quick trial of how the photo would look if I was to crop it and I feel it works well. This because the hair covers half the face and the glitter is the main focus. I feel it sets a better message and it can be brightened up using adobe light room. I feel I will smooth the skin more on photo shop to have more of a appeal like in Tyler Shields photography shots.
