GET YOUR DAILY DOSE OF COLOR
BECAUSE THEY ARE MADE FROM PLANT CONCENTRATES, NUTRILITE® SUPPLEMENTS CONTAIN A WIDE ARRAY OF PHYTONUTRIENTS, setting Nutrilite apart from other makers of dietary supplements. While we believe you should eat whole fresh fruits and vegetables whenever possible, NUTRILITE supplements fill in the gap between the fruits and veggies you need and what you actually eat, with natural plant ingredients and the nutrition that most people don’t get from their diet alone.
ARE PHYTONUTRIENTS JUST A NEW HEALTH BUZZWORD?
Not at Nutrilite. They’ve been a cornerstone of NUTRILITE products since the company was founded over 75 years ago.
While phytonutrients, the natural nutrients found in plants beneficial to human health, have been part of the chemical makeup of fruits and vegetables for as long as they’ve grown on earth, it’s only been in recent years that specific phytonutrients have been isolated, identified, and studied for their many beneficial qualities. Worldwide research has now recognized that a diet rich in phytonutrients can help lead to optimal health. That discovery has made phytonutrients a hot topic on blogs, in magazines, and in the news.
Read on to discover the depth and range of phytonutrients and their health benefits in whole foods and in NUTRILITE products. Go to Nutrilite.com/color to understand why Nutrilite is the leader in phytonutrients.
TODAY, NUTRILITE IS A LEADER IN PHYTONUTRIENT RESEARCH, DEVELOPMENT, INNOVATION, AND EDUCATION.
Under the leadership of Carl’s son, Dr. Sam Rehnborg, the next generation of scientists, researchers, and technicians is preserving the rich Nutrilite heritage by continuing to produce high-quality, innovative supplements and exploring the relationship between the soil and plants on their own certified organic farms.
VISIONARY ROOTS
With phytonutrients in the news, people are finally
starting to learn about and understand the health
benefits of using concentrated plant ingredients that
were apparent to Nutrilite founder Carl Rehnborg.
Carl lived in China in the early 1920s, where he
noticed that people in farming communities, where
fresh fruits and vegetables were plentiful, were much
healthier. In the cities, where diets included more
sugar, salt, and fat, Carl noted that there was more
disease, such as scurvy and beriberi. This cemented
the idea for Carl that the foods people eat have great
impact on their overall health. When he returned to
the U.S., he developed a way to dry plants such as
alfalfa, watercress, and parsley, while preserving their
important nutrients. This initial work became the basis
for the first multivitamin/multimineral supplement
in North America.

THE CHART SHOWS YOU:
The variety of fruits and vegetables you can eat in every color.
The phytonutrients found in fruits and vegetables of that color.
And, the associated health benefits.
ARE YOU EATING IN FULL COLOR?
If you’re eating mostly beige and brown, it’s time to break out a new meal plan paintbrush to get the mouthwatering taste and healthy power of phytonutrients.
Phytonutrients are the natural nutrients found in plants, such as lycopene from tomatoes, resveratrol from grapes, and lutein from spinach leaves. Phytonutrients offer broad antioxidant protection and provide many health benefits, yet we often don’t consume enough through diet alone.
To help you get the most from your shopping cart, we’ve provided a color breakdown of the different fruits and vegetables you should be consuming for optimal health, along with the associated phytonutrients and health benefits that come from making your plate a virtual rainbow of color.

DNA HEALTH
HEALTH BENEFITS OF REDFoods in the red color range support cell, prostate, vascular, immune, and DNA health.
THE PHYTONUTRIENTSEat a wide variety of red fruits and vegetables to get the benefits of lycopene, anthocyanidins, proanthocyanidins, beta-carotene, ellagic acid, plus many more helpful red phytonutrients.
LEARN ABOUT LYCOPENE AND ELLAGIC ACID
LYCOPENE is in the carotenoid family of phytonutrients and can be found in fruits and vegetables such as tomatoes, watermelon, pink grapefruit, and red cabbage. Lycopene has awesome antioxidant benefits, and studies have indicated that an important health benefit of lycopene is support for prostate health.1 Additional studies suggest that lycopene may help promote lung and stomach health2, while a high intake of lycopene may help to moderate UV rays.3
ELLAGIC ACID is a strong antioxidant that can be found in raspberries, strawberries, cranberries, and pomegranates. Research demonstrates that ellagic acid supports DNA health.

WHAT TO EAT
Think backyard barbecue when you think yellow –
corn on the cob, cut-up lemons in lemonade, and grilled
skewers with summer squash, yellow hot peppers, even
juicy pineapple! Pears and golden delicious apples pack
well for lunches on the go, while mustard seed can add
a dash of spice to most recipes. Going orange? Peaches,
apricots, and of course, oranges, make quick juicy
snacks, while passion fruit, papaya, and mangoes could
be tossed for a tropical fruit salad. Cold outside? Make a
scrumptious side dish using butternut or acorn squash,
sweet potatoes, or hearty carrots.

THE PHYTONUTRIENTS Make orange and yellow a star on your plate to reap the benefits of beta-carotene, alpha-carotene, beta-cryptoxanthin, lutein, zeaxanthin, quercetin, and hesperidin, along with other key phytonutrients.
LEARN ABOUT ALPHA-CAROTENE, BETA-CAROTENE, BETA-CRYPTOXANTHIN, AND HESPERIDIN
ALPHA-CAROTENE, BETA-CAROTENE, AND BETA-CRYPTOXANTHIN are known as provitamin A carotenoids and can be converted by the body to vitamin A. Foods rich in these phytonutrients include carrots, kale, spinach, and winter squash. These phytonutrients support vision health, help to maintain skin hydration, support healthy immune function, offer cell protection, and are important to healthy growth and development.
HESPERIDIN is part of the flavonoid family of phytonutrients and is found abundantly in oranges, grapefruits, lemons, tangerines, and peppermint. In general, hesperidin helps to support good cardiovascular performance.
WHAT TO EAT
So, admit it – there’s a green vegetable you don’t like, that
you haven’t liked since you were a kid because you were
forced to choke it down before you could eat dessert – right?
Well, just as you’ve probably outgrown the music you liked
when you were young, your taste buds have probably grown
up as well. And, with so many green options out there, it’s
likely you’ll find a way to go green after all. Try wilted spinach
or collard greens in a soup, a fresh salad with romaine lettuce,
kale, and Swiss chard, or grill up some zucchini. Add flavor
to your dishes with cilantro or dill.

HEALTH BENEFITS OF GREENFoods in the green color range support lung and vision health, strong bones and teeth, and help to facilitate intercellular communication and maintain healthy cell growth.
THE PHYTONUTRIENTSIncluding green on your plate means you’ll get the benefits of beta-carotene, isothiocyanate, lutein, zeaxanthin, and EGCG.
LEARN ABOUT EPIGALLOCATECHIN GALLATE, ISOTHIOCYANATE, LUTEIN/ZEAXANTHIN, AND ISOFLAVONES
EPIGALLOCATECHIN GALLATE (EGCG) can be found in green, black, white, and oolong tea and has a variety of health benefits.1 It has long been recognized that EGCG is an effective antioxidant and supports healthy cholesterol levels as well as healthy endothelial function.
ISOTHIOCYANATE is found in cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, kale, and Brussels sprouts and can help to support healthy cell growth.
LUTEIN and ZEAXANTHIN are members of the carotenoid phytonutrient family and can be found in summer squash, marigolds, and many green, leafy vegetables. Lutein and zeaxanthin have high antioxidant levels and work together to support vision health.
ISOFLAVONES are found most prevalently in soybeans, but are also present in chick peas and other legumes. Isoflavones have tremendous antioxidant properties and help to support heart health, bone health, and healthy cell growth.
