Change the arrows direction to Along Y, add vertical faces to bottom and click OK.

The following steps are redundant when using the 'High Quality' option in the Quick Split Quality preferences. However, in this exercise the steps below are introduced to illustrate how to deal with a normal, which is pointing in the wrong direction.

Click the Object Direction icon.

Notice the black faces on EACH side.

Page 10: Motorbike parting

6 Motorbike Parting CimatronE 8.5

Toggle the Auto option to Manual.

The Manual option lets you manually pick each object and flip its normal. It is useful in cases where the body includes several lumps as it allows each lump to be flipped individually.

Pick the five black faces to invert their normals i.e. they appear white, and click OK.

Page 11: Motorbike parting

CimatronE 8.5 Motorbike Parting 7

Check for Draft Angles.

Notice that the same faces are shown in red as undercuts.

These faces were assigned to the RED set since their face normals were inverted.

Page 12: Motorbike parting

Parting Faces - External

Sweep The external parting faces will now be created.

Select Tools/Composite.

Hide the following sets and Parting Surfaces:

When creating a composite curve on a split part, selection of the curves is made easier by displaying the relevant faces only.

Page 18: Motorbike parting

14 Motorbike Parting CimatronE 8.5

Create the following composite curve:

Select the Sweep Face icon from the Parting Guide, under Parting Surf.

Page 19: Motorbike parting

Pick the boundary shown here.

Extend the face as shown below:

The following step is to stitch the faces, in order to create a round. This means that the open edges will be "lost". Therefore, before the stitch operation, the face shown here will be extended, using its smooth open edge.

Select the Extend Face icon.

Page 24: Motorbike parting

Create the composite curve shown below:

Create a Natural - Multi Continuous Extension, using the Manual Directions option.

The Auto Directions parameter displays all arrows on the vertices and their corresponding default directions are calculated. The direction of the arrows can be set by right-clicking on the arrow. .One or more arrows can be removed so that their default direction at this point will not be calculated.

The Manual Directions parameter displays only two arrows at the end vertices of each face. Side directions of extensions on each vertex can be added.

Page 31: Motorbike parting

As the part is symmetric we can now mirror the parting faces to the other side.

Select Edit/Copy Geometry/Mirror and pick the Parting faces.

Page 34: Motorbike parting

Flip the Trimming Side and click OK in the Feature Guide.

Final Open the sketcher on the XY plane, and draw the following sketch:

Page 37: Motorbike parting

CimatronE 8.5 Motorbike Parting 33

Sweep this curve by a delta of 500.

The newly created face will now be cut with the intersecting faces. The Faces/Trim function is normally used in this procedure, however here the Merge function will be used as it enables the procedures completion in a single operation.

Stitch the following faces:

Page 38: Motorbike parting
