ACADEMIC CAMPS STEP-UP SUMMER READING PROGRAM Laraine Parker - [email protected]
This program is designed for students that have struggled with “scholarly pursuits” in the past. The class will give realistic options helping students avoid typical problems: general disorganization, missing/unsatisfactory homework assignments, unfocused notes, classroom boredom, low test scores, and poorly written essays. The most practical function of the class will be to guide students through the MANDATORY SUMMER READING BOOK that every incoming freshman must read for the first week of school. We will take practice tests and quizzes while reading the book at a comfortable pace. This class builds ability in students that lack confidence, and it also builds confidence in students unsure of what the high school years will bring them.

This program will help your son or daughter find success in Spanish class regardless of their level in Spanish. The focus of the program is reading, writing, speaking and listening. As a Spanish teacher, I find that the more prepared students are the better success they will have. Students will gain a basis in Spanish levels I and II through a variety of methods including singing songs, reading short stories, writing, speaking and playing fun educational games to enhance their learning.
In this 3 week course, I will teach your son or daughter how to find success in the classroom with easy to follow strategies. Having taught Spanish for 12 years, I have accumulated experience in how to prepare and encourage students to be successful in Spanish class. Don’t miss this opportunity to help your son or daughter to be prepared and have the right skills to start Spanish class in the fall of 2015. This program is designed to help students in grades 6-8 develop and strengthen their reading comprehension, vocabulary, writing, and critical thinking skills. Through the reading and discussion of a Young Adult novel, students will complete exercises and activities that will require them to think critically while also communicating and collaborating with others in an effort to improve the above-mentioned skills. Students will be able to share their ideas, thoughts, and opinions about the novel and other activities in a safe and encouraging environment while learning how to enjoy and appreciate reading and writing.

Welcome to Montini Catholic High School! Incoming freshmen face a multitude of challenges, including a more rigorous mathematics curriculum. Our records indicate that your child could benefit from our summer math program to enrich their skill set.
Experience indicates that students who struggle with math generally drop at least one letter grade as they move to the next level. This often discourages students and causes a negative attitude toward math. With the emphasis of math scores on ACT’s, SAT’s, and college entrance exams, it is important your child develop good math skills.
This summer math program is designed to reinforce what they have been taught before high school and fill in the gaps that we have noticed from past incoming freshmen classes. In addition, students will be introduced to Algebra I concepts they will encounter their freshman year. We urge you to consider this opportunity to bring your child’s math skills up to speed to help them succeed their freshman year. Students must bring their own calculator, notebook, and pencils/pens.

SCRATCH- BUILD YOUR OWN VIDEO GAME Peter Farina - [email protected]
For students entering grades 6, 7, & 8. In five three-hour sessions, your child will create their own unique playable video game that can be shared with family and friends. Students will learn the basics of computer programming using the Scratch system. Scratch is a visual programming language developed by researchers at M.I.T.’s Media Lab as an engaging way to teach programming skills to children in grades 3-12. Students need no prior programming experience to succeed and have fun with Scratch in this camp. Enrollment is limited to 24 campers per session.

APP INVENTOR – BUILD YOUR OWN APP Peter Farina - [email protected]
An advanced camp for students entering grades 6, 7, 8 & 9 Don’t just use apps, learn to design and build your own apps! For those students who have completed our Scratch camp or have learned Scratch at their own school, we offer this advanced camp. In five three-hour sessions your child will create their own unique Android App that will run on Android phones, tablets, or a software emulator. No Android device is required for the camp as we will build all of our apps in the emulator. App Inventor uses a visual programming style very similar to Scratch. Researchers at the Media Lab at M.I.T. and Google developed App Inventor to teach more complex and practical programming concepts to students in middle school through college. Limited to 24 campers.

A new advanced camp for students entering grades 6, 7, 8 & 9. Have you ever wanted to create a robot and program it to carry out useful tasks? Would you like to have your robot compete against other robots? Have you completed one of our Scratch or App-Inventor camps? If your answer is, ”Yes!”, to all of the above, then this exciting new summer camp is for you! In five three-hour sessions your child will create several different robots and program them to complete various useful tasks. We will build using LEGO’s latest EV3 robot kits and use two visual programming languages that are based on M.l.T.’s Scratch. Previous Scratch or App-Inventor experience is recommended. Campers can earn prizes with their robots, but campers cannot keep their robots. Limited to 24 campers. Ages: Grades 6-9 Dates: July 20-24 Times: 9AM-12PM Cost: $165 per student

Check out Montini’s Incredible Mad Science Summer Camp, where young scientists will enjoy a week of scientific exploration, cool experiments, new friendships and lots of FUN! Campers will participate in a wide range of engaging activities from across the sciences, both in the science lab and outdoors. Here is a quick look at some of the fun labs your young scientist will enjoy:
Forensics (fingerprinting analysis, bite mark and tire track impression labs) Cool chemistry experiments and demonstrations Meteorology experiments (humidity and air pressure) using Lab Quest 2 hardware

Be a part of a tradition of excellence in Theatre offered at Montini Catholic. Dr. Diann Matheson has been our Theatre Director for the past eleven years, having directed "The Wizard of Oz”, “Hello Dolly!”, “Oklahoma”, “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying”, “Grease”, “The Pajama Game”, “Once Upon a Mattress”, “Beauty and the Beast”, and last year’s “Fiddler on the Roof” along with many other comedies. Joining Dr. Di is acclaimed professional musical director Mr. Belford Hernandez. In addition to his professional performances, Belford has directed at Downers Grove South H.S., national choir tours, and is a guest director at a university in Venezuela. Join Dr. Di and Belford this summer and have as much fun as the GLEE kids!

The Middle School Choir Camp provides an opportunity for students interested in learning more about singing and the choral arts. The Choir Camp provides an exciting environment for the study of choral music in a fun and encouraging atmosphere.
Our master teachers will help students build a foundation of fundamental skills in music reading, vocal production, stage presence, diction, and basic musicianship through rehearsals, master classes, special enrichment sessions and performance. ATHLETIC CAMPS BASEBALL Rich Janor – [email protected] Come out and join Coach Rich Janor for his summer baseball camps. Camps will be offered in a wide range of grades from 1st through 9th. Fundamental camps will cover all aspects of the game: Hitting, Pitching, Fielding and Base running in a fun-filled environment. Also for the 3rd year, Montini Baseball will offer its unique Pro Style Hitting Camp for those who seek advanced instruction. The incoming freshman camp will introduce campers to the style and format of how Montini Baseball conducts its program. Campers need to bring a bat, glove, spikes (gym shoes in case of inclement weather), and water.

BOYS BASKETBALL Brian Opoka - [email protected] The Montini Bronco Boys Basketball team has had much recent success with the leadership of Head Coach Brian Opoka, who’s won over 30 games in the last two years. Coach Opoka hosts a variety of camps for all ages. All camps will cover a variety of defensive and offensive techniques including a strong emphasis on hustle and athleticism. Camps will be held in our beautiful Field House on the west end of campus. Campers are expected to bring basketball shoes, gym apparel, and water.

GIRLS BASKETBALL Jason Nichols - [email protected] Come and join one of the best Girls Basketball Coaches in the nation, Head Coach Jason Nichols. Over Coach Nichols’ tenure he has compiled four state titles in 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2014 along with a 3rd Place finish in 2013. Coach Nichols, who’s compiled over 300 victories in just over 10 years, heads camps for girls ranging from 6th-9th Grades. The Skills Camp will focus on the basic techniques used to be a successful Lady Bronco and the Shooting Camp will concentrate on basic shooting mechanics needed to be successful. Campers need to bring basketball shoes, gym apparel, and water.

Broncettes Head Coach Eugenia Scavone will allow your camper to “Dance Upon a Star” for one more year. Coach Scavone led the Broncettes to TDI (Team Dance Illinois) Grand Champion for the first time in school history, while compiling two more state titles to put them over 20 total State Championships. The girls will learn Hip-Hop Routines, Pom Routines, and Several Dance Techniques. All participants will receive their own set of Pom Pons, t-shirt, CD, Pasta Party, opportunity to perform at a Pep Rally, and an invitation to perform at a Montini Broncos Varsity Friday Night Lights Football Game this upcoming fall. The camp is open for girls ranging from 4th through 9th grades. Register soon to insure your spots. However, walk-ins are welcome.

BOYS & GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY Pete Connelly - [email protected] Come and join Head Girls Coach Pete Connelly (2011 and 2012 IHSA STATE 3rd Place Teams) and Boys coach Eric Brechtel (Graduate of Division III running powerhouse North Central College) to learn what it takes to become a state power runner. This camp goes all summer long and is held at the Illinois Prairie Path in Villa Park. Campers need to bring running apparel, running shoes, and water.

FOOTBALL Chris Andriano - [email protected] Come on out and join Hall of Fame Head Coach Chris Andriano for his youth camps. The Broncos won 4 straight 5A State Titles in 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2012 in addition to Second Place finishes in 2013 & 2014. Youth camps will focus on the basic fundamentals of high school football with a strong emphasis on becoming a better athlete. The high school camps focus heavily on Montini football philosophies, while still working on the drills and techniques needed to be an elite Bronco football player. All campers will receive a Bronco Football T-Shirt. Please bring cleats, athletic apparel, and water.

GIRLS HOOPS/LAX CAMP Jason Nichols (Basketball) - [email protected] Michelle Sebastian (LAX) - [email protected] This unique camp combo of basketball and lacrosse for young ladies will teach dedication and athleticism needed to be a multiple sport athlete. Head Coach Jason Nichols (Girls Basketball) and Head Coach Michelle Sebastian (Girls Lacrosse) will run a camp direction toward the fundamentals of skills on both the court and the field.

BOYS LACROSSE Chris Wall - [email protected] Catch the spirit of Lacrosse, the fastest sport on two feet. Two camps will be offered: Youth: This is a complete skills camp designed for all youth lacrosse players. Basics of the game will be taught in addition to stick skills, position work, and footwork. Experienced youth players will also benefit with advanced drills and scrimmages. High School: (incoming freshman to new seniors) Open to all regardless of whether you are trying the sport for the first time or are experienced. The focus will be on teaching skills and concepts in order to strengthen players’ confidence and make them a better player. All campers are required to bring helmets, mouthpiece, stick, gloves, shoulder and arm pads, athletic supporters (with proper protection), cleats, athletic apparel, and water. GIRLS LACROSSE Michelle Sebastian - [email protected] In 2013 The Lady Broncos finished second in the state! Come on out and join Head Coach Michelle Sebastian in our camps. The youth camp will cover basic fundamentals of lacrosse as well as what it takes to be successful at the high school level. We will also host, for the second year, an incoming freshman camp which will teach the routines and expectations the campers need to compete in high school. Equipment will be provided. Campers are required to bring cleats, athletic apparel, and water. The camp will take place in our Field Turf Stadium.

Last season Coach Briggs led our girls to an IHSA Class 1A Regional Title and the Boys Soccer team won the IHSA Class 1A Regional Title in 2013. In our camp you will get many years of coaching experience focusing on the proper fundamentals, skills, and techniques needed to be successful. Campers need to bring cleats, shin guards, and water.

SOFTBALL Mike Bukovsky – [email protected] Montini Softball Head Coach Mike Bukovsky, will be running a camp for girls ranging from 5th-8th grades. The Montini Softball team are the reigning SCC Conference Champions, Regional, and Sectional Champions from last season and have bigger hopes for the 2015 season! The Rockers Softball Travel Softball Organization is also headed by Coach Bukovsky. Montini Softball has all the drills needed to become an elite player at the youth level as well as advanced training for High School Varsity Athletes. Campers need to bring their gloves, bats, spikes (gym shoes in case of inclement weather), and water.

BOYS & GIRLS TENNIS Tiffany Scott - [email protected] Who wants to start of their summer right, by learning the importance of tennis and how it’s a skill that you will not only use on the court but as you live throughout your lives? Montini will be offering two tennis full week tennis camps this summer and we would love for you to join! The first week will focus on drills, conditioning, and tennis basics while the second camp will be geared towards more advanced players, match play, drills and more conditioning. The only sound you will hear on the court is shoes squeaking, tennis balls bouncing, growth, and inspiration. Each camp will end with a bang with Pizza Friday and each camp member will receive a t shirt! All Tennis camps will be at Oak Brook Tennis Club.

BOYS & GIRLS VOLLEYBALL Steve Dowjotas - [email protected] The Montini Lady Broncos are coming off a 4th place finish at the state finals in 2014 and show no signs of slowing down! Coach Dowjotas has over 10 years of coaching experience and is also the Co-Director of the New Wave Volleyball Club Team. A young enthusiastic vibe will be brought to your camper’s attention along with the correct fundamentals for the beginner with advanced instruction for the more competitive athlete. Campers are required to wear athletic apparel, gym shoes, and bring water (Knee pads are optional).
