A mobile phone, also called cell phone and hand phone, is an electronic

device used for mobile telecommunications over a cellular network of specialized

base stations known as cell sites. In todays busy lifestyle, mobile phone has become

such an important device to everyone including students. The idea of banning mobile

phones in college is seen as one of the ways to curb the problem of youths

obsession towards this device that can lead to other bigger problems.

Students are becoming more and more particular about the new models in

phones and had somehow got diverted because of the well developed technology.

Some of the students are not aware of the consequences they might be facing if they

misused the device. For example, using mobile phone in class during lesson will

divert the students attention and causes in lack of information received. In a way, this

can affect their examination result as they do not have enough knowledge, one that

had been explained in lecture. Not every information needed can be found in books.

The use of mobile phone, even if not in class, maybe during recess, reduces

the time spent among themselves. This can lead to problems related to

communications such as misunderstanding and low self-esteem. Misunderstanding

occurred because the information that was sent had been misinterpreted by the other

party. This happened because there are no internal connections between both the

parties that can be developed if they had achieved one same purpose. This one

same purpose can be easily accomplished if both can come out with an excellent

communication between themselves.

Low self-esteem is a lack of confidence, a situation that is usually faced by

those who think that they had problems with themselves and are unable to

communicate excellently with the people around them. Spending too much time

socializing through mobile phone can cause this problem. Students tend to express

their feelings and thoughts by texting instead of talking. When it comes to certain

circumstances that requires them to talk in front of a crowd, they will find it difficult to

do so. This problem can be prevent from occurring if they are used to talking and

socializing in crowds.

College is a place commonly known to not only prepare the youth for what

future may serve, but also a place to educate and build their moral values, organizing

themselves to become tomorrows esteemed leaders. In order to attain this aim, few

steps heading for it should be taken. One of the most efficient steps would be the

prohibition of mobile phones in college. This is due to the chances of misusing the

device which leads to ghastly social problems such as the spreading of offensive

messages, images, videos and also websites. Owing to this step taken, we do hope

that it could at least curb these problems from being more appalling.

Apart from that, banning mobile phones can also help students save up their

monthly expenses. Students are likely to spend quite a massive amount of money on

their mobile phones monthly bill or costs. By banning mobile phones, we could at

least reduce the usage of the device and consequently their monthly expenditure on

mobile phones lessens. In addition to it, they wont feel like there are competitions
