I am a Landscape Architect from New Zealand and the following is a portfolio of my professional works. I graduated with honors from Victoria University in Wellington, New Zealand in 2007 with a Bachelor of Design majoring in Landscape Architecture. Upon graduation I have worked in studios based in Auckland New Zealand, Queenstown New Zealand, and Brisbane Australia. During this time I have had exposure to inner city urban streetscape design, large infrastructure projects, resort masterplanning/design, large scale residential subdivision and plaza design. I have travelled to India, Thailand, USA, Fiji and Canada in recent years to gain valuable life perspective and experience. The following pages are a sample of works from my professional career as a Landscape Architect. If you wish to learn more about any of the following projects or have any other queries please do not hesitate to contact me:

I have been part of a team in all of the following projects. It is the combination and skill of many great people that get these projects to the quality that they are. Its also working alongside these people that has helped shape me into the Landscape Architect I am today. For that I am very grateful. In the following pages work shown is produced by myself, however as with all design work there has been input and help from others. I appreciate this and refer to it as the wonderful thing called the Design Process.

To produce all of the following projects I have used the following tools of my trade:

Project: A competition entry by LA4, Beca and Leighton for a State Highway deviation of Hobsonville and an extension to the SH16 Brigham Creek section. The LA4 part of the entry consisted of proposed landscape works including broad brush planting plans and pocket park concepts

My Involvement: I assisted in the coordination of LA4’s work with the other consultants, responsible for producing accurate CAD plans and sections throughout design development and finally producing a rendered drawing set of the Landscape Works for the competition entry.I worked alongside Jason Hogan and Lance Millwood from LA4 during this project.

Project: The pedestrian section of Swanson Street was redesigned during a mass upgrade of public areas around the Auckland CBD.

My Involvement: I joined the project towards the end of the conceptual design stage. My main involvement was through design development which mainly included 3D modelling. I produced graphic plans, sections and views. In detail I produced levels and surface finishes plans in CAD.

I worked alongside LA4 director Jason Hogan during this project.

Project: Riverhead Park is a proposal for a rural residential development near Wanaka. The development proposal made this a unique project. Each site was designed with the ability to be further subdivided into residential size lots. This gave each buyer the potential to develop further if desired with potential financial gain. This approach was driven by the economic climate at the time.

My Involvement: Involvement included initial site analysis, meetings with local authority on the proposed development model, design development of the rural residential and residential lot layout, massing models, and rendered masterplans and views.

I worked alongside Brett Thomson from Darby Partners Ltd during this project.

village was one of the few conceptual designs we did for clients looking to invest in Jack’s Point. These documents ran through site analysis, bulk and staging plans, movement plans, graphic masterplans, 3D visuals and material/architectural pages.

Included at jack’s Point is community. Each stage of residential development was a unique ‘pod’ neighbourhood. Each was treated uniquely to its individual conditions. This is Neighbourhood 3. Included in this package are rendered plans and views, planting plans, subdivision plans, community space plan, typical details/sections, product details, and a species list.

Common areas within the project included sport facilities, neighbourhood parks, streetscapes, and the extensive trail network. Landscape plans, planting plans, and details were drawn for all of these areas. Shown is a planting plan for the entrance to the tennis courts and cricket pitch.

Project: Jack’s Point is a 1,200 hectare Golf Resort project I worked on for a little over 2 years near Queenstown, New Zealand.

My involvement: I belonged to the design team responsible for all landscape works and affairs within Jack’s Point. This included residential subdivision/sporting facilities including golf, tennis, and cricket/trail networks/vast open space management/revegetation/infrastructure. Most of my work was within the village site (next page) however this page demonstrates a few of the other project types within Jack’s Point that I was involved with.

I worked with a large team from Darby Partners including Landscape Architects, Graphic Designers, Project Managers, and Financial Analysts.

Lake Tewa

Overland Flow to Lake Tewa Project: In the centre of the Jack’s Point Project lies the Jack’s Point Village site. It is the core of Jack’s Point and includes the golf clubhouse, Lake Tewa, and is the future site for commercial use at Jack’s Point. This includes but is not limited to hotels/accommodation, retail, dining, and tourism.

My involvement: We constantly were working for solutions that included innovative design ideas, design ideas that spoke truth of the heritage, and existing landscape of the area. Climatic conditions offered opportunity and constraints in design and these were always experimented with. Together with a team of Architects, Urban Designers, and the Developer we pursued a village masterplan that would deliver a village that had a ‘buzz’ and life. The Masterplan became an alive document, forever changing with new ideas, solutions and/or products that showed potential market

demand and value. Only once something was constructed did it become a more permanent fixture in the masterplan. Design concepts were tested against existing local village centres. These tests and studies drew out what made these existing villages successful, or not and gave us guiding principles.

My involvement was directly in the design conversations/workshops, the research, to produce CAD plans and graphic plans which included anything from yield studies and bulk lot boundaries through to Graphic masterplans. I produced 3D models that were an important tool in testing views/solar/bulk. We worked on creating a unique product, something that was Jack’s Point.

I worked alongside a large team from Darby Partners Ltd although mostly with Brett Thomson.

Project: The concept design, design development, and documentation of a large scale residential subdivision. Lat27’s scope of work covered the entry works, streetscape works, and park works.

My Involvement: Across the whole project (entry/streetscape/parks) my involvement included conceptual design development and the creation of presentation imagery and documents. Much of the development I worked on was through 3D modelling. Within the streetscape and park work my involvement expanded to detail design and documentation for certification and tender.

I was part of a team from Lat27 including: Paul Druery, Nathalie Ward, Andrew Neighbour and Darryl James

Project: Residential Subdivision in Northern Queensland. Included concept design, design development, documentation and specification. My Involvement: I worked along side Landscape Architect Andrew Neighbour of Lat27 to develop the original concept as depicted in the masterplan. My involvement with Stage 1 included updating graphic plans as the design developed, and preparing documentation for both certification and tender. My involvement with Stage 8 was to assist in the development of the initial design of the park area and to produce graphic plans for this.

Project: Landscape concept design, concept design development for a large scale residentil development in South QueenslandMy Involvement: I was involved in this project to model up a series and language of landscape elements including a vehicular/pedestrian bridge, shelters and furniture.I was part of a team from Lat27 including: Andrew Neighbour, John Ilett, Paul Druery, Gemma Guilford and Haiku Van Keuk.

Project: Landscape concept design, concept design development for a riverfront apartment complex in Brisbane. My Involvement: I collaborated with the project Architect to create a working model which was one of the focal tools used to communicate the concepts to the client. I was part of a team from Lat27 including: Damian Thompson and Haiku Van Keuk.

My involvement with Visual Assessment has been site visits and site information gathering, producing supporting plans and diagrams for documents written by colleagues.

Towards the end of my time in Queenstown I was given the opportunity to write a report on the visual effects of a proposed depot. I was able to do the entire report myself including all plans and diagrams, with support from Landscape Architects Brett Thompson and Duane Te Paa and from Planner Emma Dixon.

Site analysis is always done to best determine design opportunities and restrictions. During my time working on Jack’s Point in Queenstown I undertook a solar study with the outcome to produce building guidelines to ensure high solar access to all sites within the test area. My goal was to have building typologies that would work within the solar envelopes I would discover throughout the study. This was to ultimately add as much value as possible into the lots and create a very desirable environment.
