School Day Dismissals
Remember: unless you have prearranged for your student to leave school during the school day through the office, students that are ill during the school day must sign out through the nurse’s office to be excused from school. To assist the efficiency of school day dismissals, please remind your student not to text you or call on their cell phones to leave school from outside the
nurse’s office. Direct them to go to the nurse if ill during school.

TO MONROE!TO MONROE!TO MONROE!TO MONROE!
Our school musical this year is The Wizard of Oz. There will be an Informational Meeting on Monday, December 2 (the day we return from Thanksgiving break), from 3:10 – 4:00 in the Auditorium. At that meeting, students will receive a packet of audition material and will be able to sign up for an audition time. Students who want to work on a technical crew (props, publicity, costumes, set,
lighting, sound, or make-up) should also attend the meeting.
Auditions will be held the following week, on Monday, December 9 and Tuesday, December 10 from 3:10 – 5:30 in Monroe’s Auditorium. Students will be asked to sing and read from the script (song selections and scenes are contained in the audition packet). Callbacks will be held Thursday,
December 12 from 3:10 – 5:30.
All students are welcome to audition, but you MUST sign up for an audition time. If you cannot attend the Infor-mational Meeting, sign-up sheets will be posted on the wall outside the Auditorium, and students should see Mr.
Pemberton or Mrs. Prather for an audition packet.
Performance dates are March 20, 21, and 22, 2014.

The decision to close school because of snow, extreme cold, or other emergency will be made as close to 6 a.m. as possible. Dr. Brian Harris, Superintendent, will record a telephone message to be delivered to the households of all District 200 families and staff announcing the closing by 6 a.m. For you to receive this message, your current phone number must be on file with your child's school. Families may also check school and District answering machines and the District's home page (www.cusd200.org) for closing information. Local radio and TV stations will also be informed and announcements should be made over the following
radio and television stations:
Closing information is also available by: Online: www.EmergencyClosings.com E-mail: Sign up for personalized e-mail notification at www.EmergencyClosings.com Facility Search: You will need to enter " Dist. 200" or your child's school name along with the city that the school
is located in at www.EmergencyClosings.com to search. You may also search for the school's phone number.
Radio and TV stations are likely to report closings as Community Unit School District 200 or CUSD 200 and not list individual
schools. Please listen to these announcements carefully as there are several District 200 school systems in the metropolitan area.
If it is necessary to close school once classes begin, students will be dismissed based on information parents provide at registra-tion. While the school will make every attempt to reach parents, it is not always possible. In those cases, the emergency infor-mation provided by parents at registration will be used. Please be certain that the school office has current names and phone numbers
of your family's emergency contacts. It is suggested that you discuss these emergency arrangements with your child.

Students can be teachers too! On Oct. 23rd, Mrs. Bernath’s 7th period class visited Jefferson Preschool for a very special occasion. For weeks the 6th graders prepared a read aloud of a picture book of their choice. To enhance the visit, each student created an
activity to correspond with the book.
A fun time and a great way to build confidence
as readers and leaders!

Veteran’s Day Assembly
November 11, 2013
Veteran, John Kelly, who
fought alongside James
Howard Monroe, relays to
students of their experi-
ence together in the Vi-
etnam War.
Kelly spoke to students
and staff at the Monroe
Veterans Day Assembly about the short $me that he spent with Jimmy
Monroe and the impact that he made on his life. He encouraged stu-
dents to take the $me to look at the Medal of Honor Wall and said that
Jimmy Monroe would advise them to live fully in the present and to
shape the future.
School Administrators and Staff want to make sure students know the
story of James Howard Monroe. “It’s a story worth knowing,” said Mrs.
Baldus, Assistant Principal of Monroe.
