SOME Chiefs of the AbaThembu are furiouswith President Jacob Zuma, since they be-lieve the President is overstepping hisboundaries.

The AbaThembu chiefs’ issued a state-ment following the revelation lastweek, thatthe AbaThembu King, BuyelekhayaDalindyebo, would be dethroned.According to the chiefs, AbaThembu is-

sues needed to be addressed by theAbaThembu and not by the president. They described Zuma’s reaction towards

the issue of the AbaThembu kingship, as

overstepping which could divide theAbaThembu nation. The King had received a letter from Presi-

dent Zuma, giving Dalindyebo 30 days to ex-plain why he should be allowed to keep histhrone. This letter followed the action of otherDlo-

moswhohad lodged a grievance, demandingthe dethroning of Dalindyebo. They thought the king’s behaviour to be

“unbearable” and further believed that theking was allegedly involved in crime.Dalindyebowas convicted on 10 charges of

culpable homicide, arson and kidnapping in2009. He appealed against the convictions. But a pro-Dalindyebo grouping disputed

this and said not all the Dlomos were com-plaining about the King and that the deci-sion was never discussed or taken to Bum-bane Great place, where the Dlomos and theThembus decided over their matters. The chiefs said Zuma was not a court that

can give the king an ultimatum demandinga response within 30 days. “Only a court cando that, not the president.”They said the president should institute a

commission of enquiry if he thought therewas something wrong with the kingship oftheAbaThembu. The king’s right handman,Nkosi Jonas Ndzambule – who was alsopresent when the king handed a petition toZuma in his office – said theywere surprised

‘Zuma is overstepping his boundaries’ – AbaThembuChiefsto have received a letter from the presidentdemanding an answer within 30 days.According to him, Zuma had never re-

sponded to their petition when they wereasking the president to steer clear of Them-bu nation matters. He said the AbaThembu nation was not

having problems in solving their matters.“So, presently the president must stay awayfrom the Thembus and if they fail to solvetheir own problems, then only would theycall on the president.” Ndzambule said theThembu nation is expected tomeet this com-ing weekend.Attempts to reach the office of the presi-

dent for comment were fruitless.

Ndabeni agreed that they didn’t sup-port local media, forgetting that commu-nity media is a powerful tool to conveyinformation to the people.

“Bynot using localmedia,we overlookthe people who put us where we are to-day.Most of the peoplewho read or listento the local media are those who are onthe ground, particularly in deep remoteareas. If we don’t reach them, we willhave a problem, since they put us intopower,” said Ndabeni.

She called on municipalities to utilisethe local media, because they formedpart of local economic development. “It

is true that we don’t support the local me-dia. Our focus is on big newspapers or elec-tronic media. As government and local me-dia we need to come together and under-stand the importance of working together.Thatwould indeedneed continuous engage-ment.”

She called on local media houses to worktogether and to rather complement one an-other than compete against each another.

She said her department was willing tohelp community media and would also tryto assist with skills development. Shepromised to return to engage again with lo-cal media and to plan the way forward.

THE Democratic Alliance (DA) in the BhishoLegislaturewillcontinueputtingmorepressureon new Eastern Cape premier Phumulo Masu-alle to explain how some of the funds meant forformer President Nelson Mandela’s funeral ar-rangement ended up in his personal bank ac-count.

A report by the Sunday Times in May re-vealed that Masualle’s personal bank accountwas topped up with R250 000 by the provincialTreasury department to “cater for any unfore-seen expenses” during the Mandela memorialservices in December.

This happened while Masualle was still theprovincial Finance MEC. It is alleged that thetransaction was done with the blessings of thehead of the department, Marion Mbina-Mthem-ba.

DA provincial leader Athol Trollip expressedhis delight after Bhisho Legislature speaker,Noxolo Kiviet, ruled that the party’s originalquestions to thepremier relating to theMandelafuneral funding be resubmitted as a matter ofpriority.

This comes after the Bhisho Legislature alleg-edly kept on changing and blocking the originalDAparliamentaryquestionswhichsoughttogetthe truthful explanation on the public fundswhich were directed to Masualle’s personal ac-count.

The East London Express is in possession ofTrollip’s legislature questions for reply directedto Masualle and those that were allegedly al-tered and amended.

“We are delighted that the original questionhas been referred directly to the chief parlia-mentary officer for editing purposes in order toavoid having the import, pitch or substance oftheoriginalquestionbeingchanged.Thisruling

This year’s “Reach For Your Slippers”ambassadors are DJ Fresh and Janez Ver-meiren.

The two celebrities said they had joined

the campaign to show their support forReach For A Dream.

The “Reach For Your Slippers” conceptwas developed by The Hardy Boys ad agen-cy to help create awareness and generatefunds for the Foundation.

is significant as it serves to ensure that the im-portant process of putting questions to the Exec-utive is protected from any kind of subversionor manipulation,” said Trollip.

The ruling gives the DA an opportunity to putthe original questions and provides Masuallethe opportunity to explain to the legislature andpublic the whole issue of dealing with the trans-fer of R250 000 into his personal account.

“The premier’s request for an apology, due tothe perceived harm done to his personal reputa-tion by the inference that I had implied that hechanged thequestionand that Ihad implied thathe was a ‘liar and cheat’ could not be enter-tained. I’m not prepared to apologise for some-thing I never said or implied,” said Trollip.

This has been referred to the Ethics Commit-tee for investigations. Two weeks ago Trolliptold a media briefing in East London that in thebuild up to the Mandela funeral there was a sys-tematic exploitationof public fundsby individu-als in the name of Mandela.

He said some of the individuals who neededto give an account included Masualle, Mbina-Mthembu and ANC provincial deputy chairper-son and new Finance MEC Sakhumzi Somyo.

THE tent at Fairfield Junior SecondarySchool in KwaDosi location near Mthathawas jam-packed last week, when Lilitha Col-lege of Nursing fourth-year students educatedthe masses on cognitive disorders that contin-ued to result in the death of the elderly in ru-ral areas.

Cognitive disorders are a category of men-tal health disorders that primarily affectlearning, memory, perception and problemsolving. A student, Nonkululeko Matikinca, said a cognitive disorder is an illness. “It iscaused by the deterioration of brain cells ow-ing to aging, use of medication or brain infec-tions like meningitis.”

She further explained that the symptoms of

cognitive disorders differed from person toperson. “Some sufferers experience halluci-nations, while others talk to themselves, justlike the SABC1 Generations soapie charac-ter, Sompisi.”

According to the college’s principal, Nom-boniselo Ngqele, the objective of the eventwas to give back to the community as part ofNelson Mandela’s 67 minutes. She harshlycriticised the abuse and killing of elderly peo-ple suffering from the disease, which is per-ceived by some as being witchcraft.

“This is mental health awareness in an at-tempt to remove the stigma of witchcraftamong elderly people, especially in the ruralareas.

“Nowadays, if an elderly person is mental-ly ill, they are often accused of practisingwitchcraft,” said Ngqele.

THE UMGOSI team recently found out whysome teachers of today were not getting any de-served respect from their learners.

What is the story my boys? You know maan; we travel a lot especially in

this land of Express.Ja, we were at Club 40 in Cala the entire night

last Saturday, bekumnandi ziphenduka abant-wana belahlile amajita etiphile ngelixa amanyeesenziwa amadada.

There was a guy who was in the company ofyoung ladies. We paid attention because the guywas alone in the company of three beautifulyoung women who were drinking as if therewas no tomorrow. You know maan, we are al-

ways curious to know things in order to conveyit to you as they are. Ngubani kanti lo unkalelaabantwana, kona into yakhe ithini becauseakude kucace ukuba yeyiphi eyakhe intombikwezi kati zakhe?

Namajita ancwasile kuba ngabo ebengathibatsala umdla ngenxa yenkangeleko nokunx-iba kwabo. Kanti bebenxibe ntoni?

Mini-skirts boetie that expose those impres-sive thighs. Mawwuuu!!!.

We asked the chaps who knew the guy whohe is. That’s when we heard that the man is ateacher and he teaches these girls at school, meaning that now he was giving them the les-sons of club and alcohol. Ibe phi ke intloniphoxa bede babakhuphe bayosela nabo kona uza-

ayiphetheyo. Mara ngoku these teachers asksfor a skeif kubo if not a hair spray. Meaning thatthe respect was there kuthi and also the teach-ers liked to be respected by their learners.

But ngoku OWWW!! Kunzima.

Shame, she turned out to be a drunkard

If you remember at the beginning of the yearwe advised the newcomers to the tertiary levelto be strong and concentrate on their studies asthere were many challenges in this level. We al-so made them aware of bad buddies. But itseemed as if there were some who never consid-ered our advice kanti once you fail to follow theguidance of Gossip team, uyakuphalala nje nga-manzi, akutsho thina kutsho iculo lokholo.

Like a young girl who is at WSU right now, where she is doing her first year but we are notsure about the course. If you look at her face, the professional phuza face is written on thatthen pretty face because she is all over UTA inthe mnandi places.

We never visited any club in UTA without herpresence. From ladies’ night, on Thursday, upuntil Sunday morning. Uyakuthanda ukukhu-lulaahambezeenjalonje,xasebanjwengamam-bawu.

Oh! Shame. You know what my girl, this is UTA, and soze

ubugqibe ubumnandi bala mara buse bugqibewena as you can see now.

Just take a mirror and look at your presentface and take your first photo when you arrivedat UTA, there is a big difference.

Once you commit if not dedicate yourself toalcohol or abuse any drug you end up uselessand futureless whereas your parents if not yourrelatives were trying to mould your future to be-come a better person when they are no longeron this land.

You must remember your parents who sentyou here to get a decent education instead wenauvele ngomqala etywaleni.

Tell her gossip team. Nibokuze nike nimjongemajita lo mntwana sithetha ngaye, soze nin-gambonikoo-Stilleto ifnotSoWhatLoungenak-wezinye wethu. Hoping that sibe qatha enough.Take a note of this: when we are going there thiscoming weekend you shouldn’t be there, neh?

They are now appealing to anyGood Samaritans to help supportthem to fulfill their dream of improv-ing the local economy through thesport of cycling. The club, which was established in

2008, intends to host a big cyclingrace inMthatha, but this vision is be-ing hindered by a lack of support andresources. They are now having to resort to

appealing to any Good Samaritan toprovide assistance with gettingmorebicycles, as well as a sponsor thatcould assist with transport for racesoutside the area. This year the club started a cam-

managed to collect 18 bicycles. How-ever, since they have more than 30members, they still need more bicy-cles.“When we attended bicycle races

throughout SouthAfrica, we realisedthat the host towns are normally ben-efiting economically and that’s what

we want for our town and its econo-my. We are sick and tired of only at-tending races elsewhere. We need tohost races here and bring more peo-ple who would contribute in develop-

for cycling over the years.Team members are aged from 16.

He said they would appreciate anyhelp with bicycles, transport and kitfor the team.

tive of the club was to devel-op youth in cycling and toteach them the value ofsport.“You know, people don’t

understand that cyclingcould offer an affordablemeans of transport. That’swhat we want to instil in theyouth of King SabathaDalindyebo and teach themhow to use bicycles on theroad safely.
