Is there a defining moment that trig-gered you to become a producer

When Culoe De Song released his debut al-bum in 2009 I got inspired and decided to takemy music production seriously havingknown Culoe De Song for quite a while

Where do you get your inspiration foryour arrangements

I drawmy inspiration from any goodmusiccomposition I listen to almost every genre ofmusic Deep house had always been the wayfor me and that is the sound that defines whoI am musically

Irsquom always open to give advice and helpwith the recordings

Where do you rate EasternCape on a na-tional scale when it comes to clubbingDJs and producing dance music

The Eastern Cape is one of the rich provin-ces in terms of music but one of the challen-ges we are facing is artists leaving the prov-ince and going to Gauteng for better opportu-nities This is due to a lack of support - be itfrom municipalities or government depart-ments I havemade numerous attempts to in-volve the OR Tambo Municipality King Sa-batha Dalindyebo Municipality and the De-partment of Sport Recreation Arts andCulture (Mthatha) but they showed no inter-est in supporting initiatives that promote ourarts and culture They have their own peoplethat they prefer but those people donrsquot evencontribute to the love GDP boost These arethe kinds of challenges that I have experi-enced but thatwonrsquot stopme fromdoingwhatI love

Doyouhave any releases planned in thenear future Do you want to expand yourlabel

I have a lot of projects lined up for releasebut Irsquom not in a hurry because I believe inquality more than quantity The big projectthat Irsquom focusing on now is an album byMpeshnyk (Mpendulo Calaza) one the bestproducers in SA right now and it will be outin June Irsquom also looking at expanding the la-bel and venturing into the hip hop market aswell and signing more artists

You evolved frombeing just a clubber toDJ eventually becoming a producer anda mentor Tell me how all this happened

Irsquove been aDJ since 1998 and I became a pro-ducer in 2009 after Iwas pursued bymanyDJswho noticed that I had a good ear for musicI was introduced to music production around2006 and then started to take that side ofthings seriously

Tell us about your music label and howyou are using it to promote local talent

My label is called iTouch Recordings andmy mission is to give our local artists a plat-form to be able to compete with the best inthe game I normally encourage them to keepworking smart in order for them to get the at-tention they deserve

Irsquomcurrentlyworkingwithanumberof art-ists locallywith the aim of releasing theirma-terial digitally

Wherecanpeople findyour studio yourCDrsquos and your music online

You evolved frombeing just a clubber toDJ eventually becoming a producer anda mentor Tell me how all this happened

Irsquove been aDJ since 1998 and I became a pro-ducer in 2009 after Iwas pursued bymanyDJswho noticed that I had a good ear for musicI was introduced to music production around2006 and then started to take that side ofthings seriously

Wherecanpeople findyour studio yourCDrsquos and your music online

Each and every police cluster in the Ama-thole District area were represented by theirteams in soccer rugby and netball Thematches started on Saturday and finished onSundayThe SAPS believes that staging a tourna-

by three teams but unfortunately their net-ball team and rugby teams did not proceed to

the final Their soccer team however man-aged to reach the final and won 4-3 on penal-ties beating the Alice cluster after a full timescore of one allIn thenetball finalsMdantsaneClusterbeat

Irsquove been aDJ since 1998 and I became a pro-ducer in 2009 after Iwas pursued bymanyDJswho noticed that I had a good ear for musicI was introduced to music production around2006 and then started to take that side ofthings seriously

MTHATHA-born Dj Stax released his latestalbum lsquoThe Beginningsrsquo in December lastyear This deep and soulful house music al-bum is the first ever house music album tobe released by a record label based in Mthat-ha The album features international and alsolocal artists Express reporter AYANDAMILLISA MADIKIZELA met up with thisson of the soul who now has his own recordlabel based in Mthatha

Wherecanpeople findyour studio yourCDrsquos and your music online

My studio is located at Kwezi Townshipandpeople can call on 0739928095 for anybusi-ness related matters My album is availableat Musica countywide including BotswanaandNamibia People inMthatha can also callthe number provided if they want to buy thecd or they can get itMusica atMthatha PlazaThe title is DJ Stax - The New Beginnings

Any last words for our readersI would like to urge the readers to support

the local artists in whatever way they can Iwould like to also urge people to buy my al-

I would also like to thank Media24 for theopportunity to communicatewith themasses

Each and every police cluster in the Ama-thole District area were represented by theirteams in soccer rugby and netball Thematches started on Saturday and finished onSundayThe SAPS believes that staging a tourna-

ment of this nature where the youth (between15 and 25) compete in various sporting codescould help change their minds to focus on do-ing positive things rather than being in-volved in criminal activities and drug abuseThe Butterworth Cluster was represented

by three teams but unfortunately their net-ball team and rugby teams did not proceed to

the final Their soccer team however man-aged to reach the final and won 4-3 on penal-ties beating the Alice cluster after a full timescore of one allIn thenetball finalsMdantsaneClusterbeat
