How to Troubleshoot Outlook Express Mail Sending Problems?

1. First, check your outgoing mail server

settings. Select tools> Accounts from the menu. Select the desired account

and click Properties. Ensure that you enter correct server name under Outgoing mail

(SMTP) on the Servers tab. Verify My server requires authentication is checked if required on the

same tab. The user has to specify a username and password under Settings which is different from your incoming mail information.

Ensure that this server requires a secure connection (SSL) is selected under Outgoing mail in case if the user's outgoing mail connection is encrypted.

Check port under Outgoing mail (SMTP) also. Normal ports include 25 and 465.

2. Ensure that your Sent Items folder is large.

The sent folder can hold up to 2GB of data at most. In order to check the size and space, the user needs to go to their Outlook Express store folder and check the Sent Items.dbx file's size.

Now the user can move messages from the Sent Items folder to another folder in Outlook express.

Just make sure that the user has compact the folders manually after moving the messages.

3. Now, rename the corrupt Outbox.dbx file.

The user has to open their Outlook express store folder in Windows Explorer browser with Outlook express closed. Rename the Outbox.dbx file to Outbox.old.

Remember that the user will no longer have the access to any of their messages in their 'old' Outbox folder.

The user can delete the Outbox. Old file if renaming has solved the delivery issues.
