HOW TO RAISE A PIG
Sheridan Moore2nd period
Raising a pig in a barn may have some advantages…
You can collect more
fertilizer
You can control
what they eat
and can keep
them cleaner easier
There is little or no problem
with disease
They don’t tear up the yard or smell as bad
Doesn’t take up that much room to raise the pigs
When you are building your barn
you want a concrete floor with a little tilt
to it. Making it easier to clean.
Make sure that you have a drain in the
corner so that spraying it down with water it will make the
cleaning easy.
The barn should have a bed or sleeping area for the pigs to sleep and be comforted.
The bed should be 5 feet wide and 5 feet
deep that is separate from the feeding area and
have an access door.
Every pig loves to eat so there should of course be a
feeding area!
The feeding area should be 10 feet wide by 10 feet deep to fit 2
pigs.
You need a feeding trough and a good
water source.
The bottom 4 feet of your barn should be
lined with heavy material so that the pigs can not get out.
Everyday you need to….
Feed your pigs
Water your pigs
Make sure that your pigs have a clean living area
to sleep
And of course give your pigs
some love!
