Benefits of Nature Exploring nature, up close and personally, has tremendous value to ourpsychological well-being. The therapeutic value of outdoor educationprograms has been proven. Studies showed a significant reduction in stressand attention deficit symptoms when people engage in nature.

Picnic PavilionBeginning April 21, the Picnic Pavilion will be available to township residentsand organizations for rental. Rental times, fees and policies will be posted onthe website.

Join us for an early morning search for “Haverford Hank” and his shadowas we walk the trails. Meet at the Meadow Trail Head.

Darby Creek Trail Walk10:00-11:30am

Walk under the Blue Route and along Darby Creek.See the wetlands and the old railroad. Meet at the Meadow Trail Head.

All local scout leaders and their families are invited to a campfire hot dogcookout and hot chocolate at the Meadow campground.

A “Friends of Haverford Trails” group has been formed tosupport all trails, including those at Haverford Reserve and the HaverfordHeritage Trail. Over 100 members have joined. For information or to join usgo to haverfordciviccouncil.org

Grant for Multi-Use TrailIn September, the township was awarded a $290,000grant by the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commis-sion (DVRPC), to construct a 1.2 mile multi-use trailfrom Merry Place to Old Hilltop Rd. along Darby Creek,following the existing sewer line. Work on the trailimprovement is expected to begin sometime during thesummer.

Join us for a 3 mile walk along the Darby Creek Trail fromMerry Place to Haverford Reserve. Meet at Merry Place.A bus will bring us back.

Trail NewsThe ‘Haverford Bikes and Walks’ has been meeting withthe goal of making Haverford Township more bike friendly. Our plan is tocreate a map depicting safe bike routes through the township. To get involvedcontact Tim Denny at [email protected] or Rich Kerr [email protected]

Go Green by Opting OutIn an effort to go paperless we will upload the HavaGood Times to our website. You can save trees and money by

In September 2008 Haverford Township adopted a Climate Action Plan.Our goal is to reduce our carbon footprint by 20% by 2012 and 30% by2020. Some of the measures implemented include single-stream recycling,mulching the leaves collected. replacing the roof on the Skatium andreplacing street lights with more energy efficient lights. Future plans includepurchasing more fuel efficient vehicles and designing geo-thermal energysystems into the Community Recreation Environmental Center. The American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life is an overnight community celebration of lifededicated to present and former cancer patients, their families and friends. Relay For Life

raises funds for the American Cancer Society. During Relay, Team members take turnswalking, camping out, enjoying entertainment, food, and games in a party atmosphere.
