Graduation Drive-By Ceremony Class of 2020
September 18, 2020 3:00 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.
CHOICE class of 2020, we appreciate your patience as we have waited to celebrate your graduation. Due to the global pandemic, we delayed graduation (based upon student input), in the hopes that we would be able to have a traditional ceremony. Unfortunately, that is still not possible, so we will celebrate your commencement with a drive up ceremony on Friday, September 18. The details are listed below; please read them carefully to ensure a safe, enjoyable experience for all involved. Schedule: 2:30 p.m.: Student cars begin lining up (see attached route - you may come through in any order you choose)
● One car per family ● Graduate should be in passenger seat, and wearing a mask ● Anyone who will be getting out of the car needs to be wearing a mask ● All people in the car should self-screen to make sure they have no symptoms of illness
prior to the ceremony. Please do not attend the ceremony if any of this applies: ○ Any of the following symptoms: Fever or chills • Cough • Shortness of breath or
difficulty breathing • Fatigue • Muscle or body aches • Headache • Recent loss of taste or smell • Sore throat • Congestion • Nausea or vomiting • Diarrhea
○ Have been in close contact with someone with Covid-19 symptoms within the past 14 days, have had a positive Covid-19 test within the past 14 days, or have been told to quarantine by a medical provider during the past 14 days due to possible exposure to Covid
2:45: Staff members line up to cheer on students 3:00: Graduation ceremony begins
● Follow directions of staff who will direct cars through the route - be prepared with snacks and water as it may take up to two hours to get through the line
● Students will stop to pick up a mask, cap and gown at Station 1 in the Evergreen parking lot
● When it is your turn, you will be directed to stop your car in front of the stage at the back side of the CHOICE building, at Station 2
● Student and family exit car (everyone must be wearing a mask) and maintain at least six feet distance from all other observers and staff
● For our Native American families who wish to present their student with a button robe, you may do so at this time
● Principal announces student name from up on stage ● The family/friends stay behind the rope to cheer on their graduate and take photos
● The graduate picks up their diploma cover off the table, goes past the members of the Shelton School Board and Superintendent Dr. Apostle as they congratulate the student, walks across the stage, and pauses for a photo on the stage
● The family/friends and our staff photographer take pictures; we will upload the photos to the CHOICE Facebook page for student download
● Student leave borrowed cap and gown in the box on the table and pick up their senior gift
● Student and family/friends return to the car and exit the facility, following directions of the staff
Route: Students and their families will drive down West Franklin St from Loop Field toward N 8th St. Students will turn left on N 8th St, then left again into the Evergreen Elementary parking lot. Once in the parking lot, students will turn left into the parking area, drive through the parking area and then turn right into the Evergreen student pick up area. Students will travel (going the wrong direction) through the parent pick up lane then turn left behind the CHOICE building. Each car will stop at the back door of the building where they will be met by the principal and receive their diploma cover. Students - we will be producing a video of the highlights of the ceremony afterwards, to be viewed by everyone who was able to attend as well as those who could not. You will be able to download a copy of the video for a keepsake. If you would like to submit a speech for the video, please e-mail your advisor and let them know of your interest. It will need to be in the form of a video, and will need to be submitted by Thursday, September 17. The graduation video will include student speeches, video from the ceremony, photos, and comments from staff. Our goal is to make this non-traditional ceremony as memorable as possible!
