GEORGETTE

— Georgette is a fabric traditionally made from silk, but synthetic fibers have been introduced to create it.

— created by and named after a Parisian dressmaker Georgette de la Plante.

— semi-sheer, crinkly, crepe fabric, both soft and drapable — may be used for scarves, flowing garments, and as a lining fabric

CHIFFON

— Chiffon is a sheer lightweight fabric made from silk, cotton, nylon polyester or rayon. — derived from the French word meaning ‘old rag’

— It has a faint shimmer, a soft drape and slightly rough texture — used for scarves, blouses, lingerie — overlay fabric in garments

THE PLAIN WEAVE

Both georgette and chiffon are created in the plain weave. — 1 over, 1 under — provides stability — right side and wrong side of fabric look the same

WOVEN & NON-WOVEN FABRICS

Woven fabrics are textiles created through the process of weaving. The fabrics are created on a loom and the threads are woven on a warp and a weft. Non-woven fabrics are textiles that can be produced by a variety of processes other than weaving and knitting. They are made of parallel laid, cross laid or randomly laid webs bonded together using adhesive thermoplastic fibers along with heat or pressure.
