FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES FOR RESEARCH,TRAINING, AND CAREER DEVELOPMENT
The American Cancer Society, the largest, not-for-profit funding source for cancer research inthe United States, invites applications for the following grants from nurses and other health careprofessionals with an interest in cancer related research or cancer practice.
• Research Scholar Grants in Psychosocial and Behavioral Research for Beginning and Senior Investigators -Awarded to independent investigators at any stage in their careers to support research projects centered on thepsychosocial and behavioral aspects of cancer. Initial awards are made for up to five years and up to $500,000 peryear. Application deadlines: April 1 and October 15.
• Research Scholar Grants in Health Services and Health Policy and Outcomes Research for Beginning and SeniorInvestigators - Awarded to independent investigators at any stage of their careers to support research projects cen-tered on health services and health policy and outcomes research. Initial awards are made for up to four years andup to $250,000 per year. Application deadlines: April 1 and October 15.
• Master’s Degree Scholarships in Cancer Nursing - Awarded to graduate students pursuing master’s degrees in can-cer nursing. Awards are made for up to two years in the annual amount of $10,000. Application deadline:December 15.
• Doctoral Degree Scholarships in Cancer Nursing - Awarded to graduate students pursuing doctoral study in thefollowing cancer nursing fields: research, education, administration, or clinical practice. Awards are made for upto four years with a stipend of $15,000 per year. Application deadline: December 15.
• Postdoctoral Fellowships - Support training of researchers who have received their doctorate to enable them toqualify for an independent career in cancer research (including basic, preclinical, clinical, psychosocial, behav-ioral, and epidemiologic research). Awards are made for one to three years with progressive stipends of $35,000,$37,000, and $40,000 per year and $2,000 per-year institutional allowance. Application deadlines: March 1 andOctober 1.
• Clinical Research Training Grants for Junior Faculty - Support training of junior faculty within the first four yearsof their independent faculty appointment to conduct mentored clinical, epidemiological, health services, healthpolicy and outcomes, or psychosocial and behavioral research. Awards are made for up to three years for up to$150,000 per year. Application deadlines: March 1 and October 1.
• Targeted Grants for Research Directed at Poor and Underserved Populations - Support research projects that focuson poor or underserved populations and address a variety of behavioral, epidemiologic, policy, health care deliv-ery, and clinical and basic science issues. Applications accepted for all of the above programs.
