Full truckload shipping and its vital benefits

Full Truckload shipping (FTL) is basically the movement of a large amount of freight or

homogenous cargo - the amount required to fill the entire intermodal container or semi-

trailer. Full Truckload Company contracts an entire trailer load to a single customer and

ensure it is shipped to a specified location.

Full truckload freight carrier delivers the trailer to a shipper, who is required to fill the trailer

with freight for a particular destination. The trailer is filled with freight of a single client and

all the paperwork is submitted to the driver (including invoice, bills and bills for custom

verifications). In most of the cases, the trailer directly proceeds to the consignee and deliver

the cargo. There are rare occasions when the driver will be required to transfer the freight

into another trailer midway when transporting full truckload.

Since, full truckload carrier deal in a large variety of items – truckload carriers specialize in

a specific type of freight. This is so because different types of equipment and insurance

formalities are required for different types of freight. So carriers either specialize in primary

transport of food and perishable items while some would specialize in moving hazardous

materials.

When is full truckload freight a right choice for you?

Full truckload freight is used primarily for large shipments – for large amounts of cargo

which can fill the entire shipping container of trailer. And unlike less than truckload freight,

the full truckload freight is transported directly to its destination without being transferred

from one truck to another midway – thus full truckload is the safer and faster method of

freight transportation.

Benefits of full truckload freight

Depending largely on what type of freight you are shipping, there can be cost savings if you

choose to opt for full truckload. If you have had a fair idea of full truckload shipping, it will

be easy for you to enumerate the advantages of full truckload over less than truckload

shipping – primarily the cost benefit. Here are three most important benefits of full

truckload freight.

If you are shipping large enough freight which can fill and entire container and the

shipment has a single place of pickup and drop, then shipping the freight by full

truckload will be less expensive as compare with LTL Full truckload is a faster method of shipment. The full truckload freight is routed on a

hub system, which makes transportation a lot easier and quicker Full truckload shipping is safer. Since packages are not handled en route and are only

handled once each at pickup and drop off points, there is lesser chance of

mishandling and damage to the consignment In full truckload shipping, the pricing is not done on per-pound (weight) basis,

instead pricing depends on lane and miles travelled. For instance, if the shipment is

scheduled to a high volume destination, the shipment will be priced lesser (as

compared to a shipment marked for some other location) because it will beneficial for

the transporter. Source: http://www.usatruckingservices.ca
