Employment Initiative Presenters: Chad Sowash and James Emmet
Chad and Julie will discuss how DirectEmployers (DE) Association is working to utilize technology and partnerships to bring federal contractors and disability organizations together. The DE Disability and Employment Initiative focuses on increasing efficiency for both recruiters and job developers, increasing access to vetted, quality, available jobs for job seekers with disabilities, and increasing businesses’ access to job seekers. The presenters will discuss Tier 1 & 2 of the DE 3 tiered approach. Tier One focuses on incorporating technology and existing job delivery infrastructure through the National Labor Exchange (NLX) and US. jobs to better infiltrate and recruit in the disability community. Tier Two focuses on building resources in the existing disability and employment service delivery community and providing education to both disability organizations and DE member companies.

The presenter will share examples of companies that have successful resource groups and how these groups have assisted the businesses to become more inclusive and disability friendly. Martha will share her 25 years of corporate global diversity experience and provide information on how to get Employee/Business Resource Groups started, re-energize/revamp an existing Employee/Business Resource Group, and assure that they are tied to the bottom line. Disability Employee/Business Resource Groups are key to an employer brand and therefore are critical to recruiting, retaining and developing an actively engaged employee base. They also become important by providing insights into the marketplace and community where people with disabilities are playing more of a major role.
