DISCOVER YOURSELF AT DOWLING COLLEGE

DISCOVER yOur fuTurE At Dowling College, we believe education leads to

important discoveries — discoveries about the world

around you as well as discoveries about yourself.

We’re very proud of the programmes offered through

our schools of Arts and Sciences, Aviation, Business,

and Education. Working with our faculty you will discover talents and abilities that you may not yet know you have. Dowling is where your

interests and skills come together to form a foundation that will help you achieve your goals.

As a Dowling student you will have the advantage of small class sizes that allow for

one-on-one opportunities with your professors. Over 95 percent of our full-time faculty have

earned the highest degrees in their discipline, and they are ready to share their knowledge

and expertise with you. Rest-assured that every class you take at Dowling will be taught by a

professor and not a teaching assistant.

Student life at Dowling is vibrant and designed to enhance your academic and social

journey. Whether it’s in the classroom, on the playing field, or 5,000 feet above the ground in

one of our School of Aviation’s Piper Warriors, you will be driven to succeed at Dowling. There

are over 35,000 successful alumni who are proud of their Dowling heritage and we hope you

will soon join their ranks.

The Dowling College campus is an integral part of the college experience. Whether students choose to live on campus in one of

our apartment-style suites or commute, they all think of Dowling as home.

The residence halls at the historic Rudolph-Oakdale campus and Brookhaven campus give students the opportunity to live on their

own while learning how to manage their time between classes, working on or off campus, maintaining a comfortable living environment

and attending different school activities. Of course, amenities including the Lion’s Den student lounge, convenient fitness centers, and

two cafeterias—one newly redesigned, where students can dine overlooking the scenic Connetquot River—add to the fun of being on

campus.

With over $50 million invested in the campus infrastructure since 2000, Dowling’s facilities enhance every student’s learning

experience. To create a personal learning environment, you won’t find a single lecture hall on campus. And “SMART” classrooms bring

the curriculum to life with Internet access, digital projectors and the Blackboard Learning System, which enables students to access and

share documents from anywhere in the world. A new science laboratory, flight and air traffic control simulators, new classrooms, a newly

converted Music House, and a newly redesigned library are just some of the exciting improvements happening around campus.

With more than 30 clubs and organizations, 12 honor societies, an active Student Government Association, numerous annual themed

events, and student trips, Dowling offers a rich and vibrant community for students. September is “Welcome Back” month and provides a

wide range of activities to promote social diversity. It’s also the perfect time to join the clubs and organizations that interest you. And if you

see an opportunity for a new club, any student is welcome to create one. The Lion’s Voice student paper, online event calendars, and a ticker

on campus keep students informed of upcoming events.

There’s always something happening at Dowling: Take one of the campus kayaks for a paddle in front of historic Fortunoff Hall; join

other students working out on the Fit Trail; take part in an Open Mic night; feast at a club-sponsored cookout; take in a play at the Loft

Theatre; or check out art exhibits at Dowling’s Anthony Giordano Gallery. It’s all part of life at Dowling—and you’re invited to be part of it all.

Dowling College is a private, comprehensive, coeducational college offering classes at two campuses, our historic Rudolph-Oakdale Campus and our 105-acre Brookhaven Campus in Shirley. Founded in 1955 as part of Adelphi College’s outreach to Suffolk County, the College purchased the former W.k. Vanderbilt estate in Oakdale in 1962. In 1968, the College severed its ties with Adelphi and was renamed after its chief benefactor, Robert Dowling, a noted city planner and aviator.
