Sandy Recreation & Leisure Guide Summer 2017

Page 2 Summer 2017 Recreation & Leisure Guide

At the base of the Mt. Hood, and the Mt. Hood National Forest recreation

area, the City of Sandy is a thriving community of almost 11,000 people. The city acts as the

commercial center for a large rural area population as well as visitors to the Mt. Hood Recreation

Area. Sandy is widely seen as an attractive spot to reside due to its unique stores and services,

recreational opportunities, and its proximity to the City of Portland, the Portland International

Airport, and the scenic Columbia River Gorge. City services include a top notch transit system, a

number of beautiful parks, and recently, the city has added a gigabit fiber optic system for homes

and businesses. Sandy recently purchased a 40 acre campus that will soon be an anchor point to

our downtown area, housing a state of the art aquatic center and multi-generational community

center. The project will begin in late summer/fall of 2017. Sandy is also host to a number of

events that attract thousands each year including the Sandy Mountain Festival, Music and Movies

in the Park, and the Sandy Oktoberfest. With much to offer, Sandy is a terrific place to live, visit,

and work!

KIDS’ PARADE ENTERTAINMENT New Puppet Show!

Begins at 11:15am

This tale brings audiences into a timeless world of friendship and fun. Original music composed by Robert Randall (of TrashMan and the Noise Band) accompanies a lively and interactive script. Audiences are encouraged to engage in conversations about environmental stewardship and become a Backyard Hero themselves. KC's original style of creating elaborate puppets out of only paper enhances this tale, presenting puppet theatre in a style rarely seen before.
