iterative process

2

The Iterative process was an attempt to replicate the process an architecture firm would go through on the way to creating a project. We created multiple versions of a cube using lines, planes, and a combination of the two. The final iteration was a block made out of poplar.

Creating The cube

4

Creating the cube's goal was to make several different versions of a cube that interacts with and creates space. THe different cubes were very conceptual in nature, but started a conversation about occupiable space.

abstract construct

The abstract construct was an abstraction of the ONe stop builidng on the campus of the university of cincinnati. THe objective was to cut “strips” out of the building and put them together to replicate the space. The drawing is another abstraction of the space.

unit Design

The objective was to create a unit that could be built in mass replication and could be transformed into several different configurations. The basic structure my team started with was the “A” frame. From there, the figure went into several iterations, finally producing the version seen below. THe second, smaller “A” frame is in place to support the wing features we added. this functions as an opportunity to create more combinations of structures. On the adjacent page, the pictures depict some of our formations, utilizing about 50 “A” frames.

Defining space

The final project of my second semester of year one in architecture proved to be quite the challenge. The object was to define an eight foot cube space using an alloted amount of MDF and lumber. The other unique spin was that our own group's project had to interact with six other groups' constructions to make a series of seven, displayed outside at the university. With only a short time to collaborate with 130 other students, the task of bringing all of these ideas together was just as much a test of patience and teamwork as it was a test of design ability. The key feature of my group's construct was the idea of modularity. As a lead of the designing of this modularity, my task was to create walls that were easily repeatable and could be fitted together to form larger walls. the piece did a fantastic job in functionality, and created ample opportunity for sun to pass through at different times and in different ways.

rhino modeling

The objective was to model conceptual buildings for a library project that my class is currently working on. I also included some of the plans and sections that accompany my models. This was our first exposure to the program Rhino.

courtyard renovation

The butler high school courtyard renovation is an initiative i came up with to utilize an unused space at my high school. I am currently selling engraved bricks that alumni are buying and putting their year of graduation and name on them. Next summer, my friend and i will build this space in the courtyard that is currently not used for anything. THe project is completely self-generating in profit; so there is no need for money from outside sources. I am half way through the projected total of bricks needed to be sold. My website for the project is bhsalumni.weebly.com.

conceptual Work

conceptual work includes independant work I have taken on, either to further design class projects or ideas i have had on my own.

Exploring Photography

The Opportunity to explore the art of photography presented itself in my first year of education in the daap program. a project to take photographs of downtown cincinnati sparked an interest in pursing photography outside of my studio work. Over the past several months, I have gone to various sites to practice and perfect my photography skills. THough i have a lot to learn still, I have thoroughly enjoyed photographing at places like Notre dame, Tipp City, and Springfield, Ohio.
