2014-2015 Theatre Arts Classroom Expectations*

Expect to Respect

Use nice words to discuss your classmates’ artwork, and to talk with your teacher, classmates, or volunteers.

Expect to Create

Participation is required! By participating, you are expressing yourself.

Expect to Follow Directions

Follow directions quickly and completely at the sound of the whistle (or bel) so that everyone can have fun and learn.

Expect to Be Great!

Everything you do to the best of your ability is great!

Expect to Focus

Theatre class is our Art Time. Leave things from outside the class (attitudes, bad days, stress, anything that will distract you) outside the door.

Expect to Have Fun!

Theatre can be hard work, but it is so much fun!

*Any young artist that forgets his or her expectations will have to sit in the “Expecting Artist’s Chair” (EAC), until he or she remembers them. This means that young artist will miss out on a fun activity or opportunity, so don’t forget your expectations! Respect, Create, Follow Directions, Be Great, and Have Fun.

*Young Artists that routinely remember their Expectations will be rewarded with items from The Vault.

2014-2015 Theatre Arts Classroom Procedures

K-2nd Grade:

1. Daily Check-In: guided by the teacher, students will do a quick check-in of how they feel emotionally, mentally, and physically at the start of class. The Daily Check-In is designed to focus the student’s mind for the day’s artistic endeavor.

2. Daily Warm-Up: guided by the teacher, students will do a quick, but thorough warm-up of the voice and body.

3. Daily Activity: Students will receive instructions from the teacher. 4. Clean-Up: Students will clean up their work space, making sure to return any un-finished

projects to their class’ appointed space. 5. Cool-Down: After clean-up, students will show that they are prepared for the Cool-Down by

sitting down with their hands in their laps, and their lips closed. We will do a lot of fun, silly, high-energy activities in Theatre class, so the cool-down is designed to re-focus the student’s mind for re-entry into the outside world.

3rd-5th Grade:

1. Daily Journal Check-In: Immediately upon entering the classroom, students should get their journals and begin. They will have three minutes at the start of every class to do a check-in in their journals: they can write paragraphs, poems, draw pictures, draw words, and pictures…anything that responds to the daily prompt. The Daily Journal Check-In is designed to focus the student’s mind for the day’s artistic endeavor by getting their creative juices flowing. The Daily Journal Check-In is also designed to help the teacher get to know the students’ artistic side.

2. Daily Warm-Up: guided by the teacher, students will do a quick, but thorough warm-up of the voice and body.

3. Daily Activity: Students will receive instructions from the teacher. 4. Clean-Up: Students will clean up their work space, making sure to return any un-finished projects

to their class’ appointed space.
