  • Rearing Methods

    (a) Sexes reared separately. Males & females reared separately until 21 weeks then mixed with ratio of 12 :100(12%). At sexual maturity (24 weeks) reduce No. of males to 10/ 100 (10%).

  • Rearing Methods

    (b) Sexes intermingled. Sexes reared separately for first 2 weeks, beak trimmed & then mixed in equal numbers.

  • Controlled Feeding

    Target Weight (23wks) Male = 3Kg Female = 2.5 Kg

  • Purpose

To achieve target weight. A measured quantity of feed each day to meet body weight target. Quantitative Feed Restriction.Quantity of recommended feed is restricted up to10 to 20%.

  • Qualitative Feed Restriction

Feeding of low energy & low protein Under Weight Birds. Increase quantity or quality of feed.Over Weight Birds. Weekly feed increase is stopped.

  • Nutrient Requirement Calcium (%) =1.0 Additional supplementation of vitamins &mineralsBreeder Grower Ration. Energy = 2700Kcal/Kg CP= 15% Grit Feeding= 500gm small sized grit /100 birds / week.

  • Light Management. Light duration = 8-12 H Light intensity = 0.5 foot candle. Never increase duration or intensity of light during growing. Grow birds on constant or decreasing day length & lowered intensity.

  • Body Weight Control

Objectives: (1) Uniform body weight. (2) Small frame size. (3) Uniformly fleshed

90% birds be in weight class, plus/ minus 10% of the average weight of flock.

  • Key Factors For Uniformity

From 2 weeks onward, weekly weigh 5% of birds.Regular grading & separating of birds according to their weight. Sufficient feeding & drinking space.

  • Cont.Fast feed distribution to all birds in the house. Adequate floor space & uniform environment. Uniform beak trimming. Proper litter management.

  • PRODUCTION MANAGEMENT (24-64 weeks)

    Weeks

    Production starts = 24 Peak Production = 32 Peak Production period = 2-3 Decline Production = 38-39

  • Cont.

    At 64 weeks = un- economical production Total eggs /hen =164 Hatchability (%) = 85 Total chicks/hen =140

  • PRODUCTION MANAGEMENT (24-64 weeks)

    Floor space/ bird = 3-3.50 sq.ft Feeder space Trough = 6 inch/ bird Tube (diameter) = 36cm Birds /trough = 11 Water space = 1.25 inch /bird. No. of birds /drinker = 15

  • Nests

    One nest for = Every 4 hens.Height = 35cmDepth = 35 cmWidth = 30.5 cm

  • FEEDING MANAGEMENTFixed quantity of feed according to flock condition & rate of egg production.

(a)Pre Laying Period (22-24 weeks)Some what high protein & energy.

  • (b) During Production

(26 week to peak production ) At start of production increase feed weekly. At 30% production full feeding to hens. Do not reduce during this period. Extra vitamins.

  • Factors Affecting FCR

    (I) Feed quality.

(II) Environmental temperature. At low temperature increase amount of feed.

In summer layers reduce feed intake, increase energy, vitamins, amino acids & minerals.

  • (c) After Peak Production

Feed quantity for hens be reduced by 1-2 gm / week. Decrease in production 4-5%, start decreasing feed 2-2.5 gm/bird / week. If there is some negative effect on peak production due to decreased feed, return to pre-existing feed level. Feed reduction be gradual, not abrupt, keeping in mind production, body weight & weather.

  • Controlled FeedingTo maintain body weight targets.Advantages: (I) Uniform body weight. (II) First eggs are larger. (III) High egg production. (IV) Less mortality rate. (V) Increased egg size, fertility & hatchability. (VI) Reduced feed cost.

  • LIGHT MANAGEMENTDuration. Never decrease light during production. 16-17 H light.Light intensity 1.0 foot candle / bird. Do not decrease light intensity during production.Sex Ratio. Male to female ratio 1: 10. Maintain extra male separately.
