Marcus Garvey

Abraham Lincoln • He successfully led
his country through its internal crisis the civil war preserving the union and ending slavery.
• Initially, Lincoln expected to bring about the eventual extinction of slavery by stopping its further expansion into any U.S. territory, and by offering compensated emancipation
• Harriet Tubman was a runaway slave from Maryland who became known as “Moses of her people.”
• Over the course of 10 years and at great personal risk she led hundreds of slaves to freedom along the Underground Rail Road.
