Annette Fitton from Nini and Wink, wildly threw open the doors to her cupboard full of recycled and/or left over pieces of fabric, yarn, magazines and cardboard, sharpened her industrial designer’s hat and fell madly in love with designing and making things. Subsequently, Dolly & Friends were born. These child friendly, machine washable characters are both funny and cute. Hand-made from predominantly recycled cotton corduroy with new polyester filling these original dolls each have their own name and personality, a consequence of their free form embroidered faces.Nini and Wink are looking forward to their stall at this year’s Makers Market to catch up with the creative community of Kingston and the happy craft seeking crowds. They hope you will love these beautiful, individual and creative gifts.

Raised amidst an environment of Led Zeppelin, Bob Marley, Jimi Hendrix, Al Green, The Meters, James Brown, Stevie Wonder and the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Josh thrived on new musical flavours and aimed to incorporate the sounds he loved into the music he created. Whether it’s funk, blues or reggae, the overriding element for Josh is the infusion of “soul”, and he combines all of these genres to produce his own very original sound.

For the very first time in Kingston, Artist Sean Diamond showcases his large scale art installations ‘Planetoids’ at this year’s Makers Market. Following an extremely successful showing at the White Night Festival last year, these huge steel structures will illuminate the Market and have the crowds gazing in awe.

C I N E M A S C R E E N I N G S AT SHIRLEY BURKE THEATRE

Shirley Burke Theatre is rolling out a series of cult film nights, and we are kicking off with this Coen Brothers’ classic, “The Big Lebowski”. So come along all you Little Lebowski Urban Achievers, enjoy a White Russian at the bar and a mini game of ten pin bowling before the movie starts. Come dressed as your favourite character or in your favourite dressing gown – prizes to be won on the night!

THE BIG LEBOWSKILebowski: not a man, a way of life.

When “The Dude” Lebowski is mistaken for a millionaire Lebowski, two thugs urinate on his rug to coerce him into paying a debt he knows nothing about. While attempting to gain recompense for the ruined rug from his wealthy counterpart, he accepts a one-time job with high pay-off. He enlists the help of his bowling buddy, Walter, a gun-toting Jewish-convert with anger issues. Deception leads to more trouble, and it soon seems that everyone from porn empire tycoons to nihilists want something from The Dude.

Starring Jeff Bridges, John Goodman, Steve Buscemi, Julianne Moore, Tara Reid, Philip Seymour Hoffman and John Turturro.

The Dude abides!

THE PRINCESS BRIDE This thoroughly tongue-in-cheek, forever

quotable, swashbuckling fairytale is by far one of our all time favourite movies. How can it not be? The Princess Bride gives us a dread pirate, insanity-inducing cliffs, fire swamps, a reluctant princess, a wily Sicilian, a six-fingered count, mawwiage, Rodents of Unusual Size, tiny Fred Savage, fencing, fighting, torture, revenge, giants, monsters, chases, escapes, miracles and – most importantly – love. TWUE WUV!! We love this movie every bit as deeply as Westley loves his Buttercup – it would be INCONCEIVABLE to miss out!

Arrive early for pre-show games and activities. Come along dressed as your favourite character and relive the nostalgia of a childhood favourite screened in our beautiful venue! Great prizes to be won. Costume ideas to get you started: Westley, Buttercup, Inigo Montoya, Count Tyrone Rugen, Fezzik, Vizzini, The Grandfather, The Grandson, Miracle Max, The Impressive Clergyman, Rodents of Unusual Size… your imagination is the limit!

Traditional seascapes often give a context to the water they wish to capture in the form of things like a sky, a sandy beach, rocks or a boat...etc. I have tried to paint from the point of view as though I were painting waist deep in the water. This gives the wave a life size feel and immerses the viewer into the scene.Stephen McKenzie

NEW BLOOD CREATIVE DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

Kingston Arts’ New Blood program is all about creating innovative new work! New Blood aims to provide professional development for independent performing artists and support in the creation of high quality new Australian work.

In addition to access to a rehearsal space, support may also be given in the form of:

• Access to some technical and administrative facilities

• Facilitation of open showings, play readings, workshops and rehearsals

• Mentoring opportunities

Applications open on Monday 3 November 2014 and close at midnight on Monday 2 February 2015.

Kingston Arts will offer a rehearsal space one day per week for the duration of your creative residency (excluding a production week), estimated at three to four months.

Approximately two projects per year can be accommodated. Applications are welcome from any performing arts medium including, but not restricted to, theatre makers, circus artists, dancers, musicians and puppeteers. Applications will be reviewed and selected based on merit and creativity. Successful New Blood applicants will be committed to their craft, have fresh ideas and be able to tell a good story well.

Successful applicants will be asked to sign terms of reference before commencing their creative residency and complete an OH&S induction with venue staff.

Visit our website www.kingstonarts.com.au to download an application form. Contact Kingston Arts’ Performing Arts Coordinator at [email protected] if you require any further information or would like a hard copy or writable electronic version of the application form.

Free space for your art to grow!

4. Convenience: Wearelocal–KAC&KCH arelocatedonly20minsfromtheCBDandFrankston while Shirley Burke Theatre is only 10minsfromFrankstonand30minsfrom St Kilda. Performances are the perfect duration to help retain students’ attention and times selected to ensure return to school by the end of the school day.

We are happy to provide notes on theatre etiquette to help teachers prepare children for a live performance.
