Bruce Black (1970 – Present) grew up in Phoenix Arizona, spending summers at his cabin up in the woods of Northern Arizona.

The peace of the desert and the vistas of the high country inspired Black to begin the journey of being an artist.

Black’s work fits within the realm of American Realism. The fluid brushwork and rustic scenes are similar to American master, Winslow Homer. In addition the lonely settings of old farm houses and barns recall the stark and quiet style of Edward Hopper.

Although he is comfortable painting in a wide variety of medias and styles,  watercolor was Black’s first love, and he handles the medium with the fluency and confidence of a master.  He states, “I remember visiting galleries in Scottsdale with my grandparents way back in the late seventies.  They enjoyed watercolors and introduced me to a number of artists working at that time.  That was when I started painting, and I have never stopped or wanted to do anything else.”
