While the blood and discoloration are fake, the missing limbs are real.
A little blatant, you might say. This is good to show those who think the possibility of using such
actors in Boston is unthinkable. If you notice how long the smoke lingers over the blast scene in the

Amputees in Action – bringing dramatic realism to
army exercises
Amputees in Action has won a contract from the UK Ministry of Defence to help provide realism to
military training. Berenice Baker talks to managing director John Pickup, himself an amputee actor,
about how this innovative company is helping to prepare medics and soldiers for the worst possible
battlefield injury scenarios.
In June 2012, ‘Amputees in Action’, an agency for amputee actors, was appointed by international
service company Serco Group as one of two training subcontractors to help deliver a major
contract awarded by the UK Ministry of Defence.
Under the Contemporary Operating Environment Force (COEFOR) contract, Amputees in Action
will provide their own unique brand of raw, blood and guts realism to help support the British Army
in their preparations for operations, such as those in Afghanistan.
Here, Berenice Baker asks John Pickup about the agency’s involvement in military training
exercises and what the future holds for the innovative company.
Berenice Baker: What is the background of Amputees in Action?
“We set up the company in 2004 primarily to provide a one-stop shop for the industry. In 2005 we
got invited to work with the military playing roles in training exercises.”
John Pickup: We came out of the film and TV industry portraying injured soldiers in productions
such Saving Private Ryan and Band of Brothers.
Some fellow actors [and I] quickly realised that there was a niche market for amputees outside of
the major agencies, so we could specialise.
We set up the company in 2004 primarily to provide a one-stop shop for the industry. In 2005 we
got invited to work with the military playing roles in training exercises.
With the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the crews needed help to do the training [and] it’s grown
from there. We’ve now got nearly 300 actors on our books, plus, SFX (special effects) personnel
for the role-playing side.
BB: Are many of your amputee employees ex service personnel?
JP: There is a healthy mix of military and civilian people on our books, but we’ve got a bigger
proportion from normal civilian walks of life, who have lost limbs through industrial accidents and
medical causes such as cancer and diabetes.
BB: Are the military contracts fairly regular?
JP: We work quite a lot with the military, taking part in about five different exercises a year, with
some of them spanning a ten-week period, which is quite a big timeframe.
“We’ve also been working hard on the corporate sector, such as dangerous places like oil rigs that
need emergency training.”
As not all our actors are ex-military, we have to train them in military protocols and maintain
secrecy; we’ve got about 80 guys trained up at the moment and we’re in the process of more
training.
When you get thrown into the military arena, no-one tells you that there are men running around
with rifles and there are tanks and helicopters, so it can be quite a dangerous place if you don’t
know what’s going on around you and you’re not made aware of all the health and safety issues.
There’s also an aspect of being trained to react appropriately to the medical treatment that’s being
administered, whether correctly or incorrectly, and medical protocols they have to follow.
BB: Can you paint a picture of the sort of scenario you might detect during a military
exercise?
JP: The one most people will recognise from some of the TV documentaries is a foot patrol leaving
a compound and then they come under fire or one of the party steps on a mine.
[One of them] gets blown up and the troops then have to deal with the situation. They could be an
hour or two’s walk from the compound and they’ve then got an injured soldier or civilian they’ve got
to deal with, treat in the field and then evacuate to a safe point or extract to a main hospital.
We pick the worst possible scenario that could happen to somebody so when these kinds of
accidents happen for real, they should be able to deal with it very easily.
BB: What special effects do you provide?
JP: What we do in the role-playing industry is slightly different to what they do in the film and TV
industry. The medics will have to interact with the fake amputated limb. The mechanisms of the
injury are different from how it works on film and the make-up looks completely different.
There are also more time constraints during an exercise than on a film set. Though it’s very
realistic, we don’t make it so horrific the medics run away; we give them training as close to the
real thing as possible to help them save lives.
BB: Are you looking to expand over the next five years or so?

JP: We’ve already got a presence in Europe and we’re looking to move into Europe and worldwide,
though obviously we’re struggling with the economic climate which is a bit jittery. It’s a three-
pronged approach targeting films, emergency services and the military.
We’ve also been working hard on the corporate sector, such as dangerous places like oil rigs that
need emergency training, and that may grow into other things. Though everyone wants to do it on
the cheap at the moment.
We are the premier amputee agency growing and expanding into new areas; we’re always looking
for new business and new opportunities. Working with Serco, who are a top 100 company, has
presented us with some new opportunities that may come through that relationship in the future.
Now other corporate [companies] of a similar ilk are looking at us, so this relationship will benefit
Amputees in Action in the future. Obviously it’s tough in the current economic climate, but being an
entrepreneur I’m sure I’ll find something.

Amputees in Action were definately at the Boston bombings the guy in the wheel chair should
get a Amputee Actors award for his performance.

“A dose of perspective for all of us”, perhaps even an overdose! These two videos, this and
the preceding give us the clearest and most accurate picture of what occurred during the
Boston Marathon.
The emergency services (combined) ran a live training exercise. That’s the bottom line. That’s
all it was. You might ask, “Then was anyone actually killed?”
We only have the media to believe. Are they viable, are they credible?
We might even go so far as to think that the drama that followed into Friday night was all an
exercise, all scripted. It’s possible. Special effects are that good.
We didn’t get the ‘poster child’ for domestic terrorism, when that potential was very real; with
the eight year old. Did the media cover his funeral? Are our wits being pitted against a media,
military, government, police state complex? It seems so.
Is this live street theater something ‘We The People’ are supposed to be enjoying? Say, bring
up the hospital footage of the injured being treated. Lets go ‘live now’ to the funerals of the
deceased. Please?
One obtuse ‘military rescue team’ was slated for the scrap heap. Guess what, their funding
was approved, and they’re up and running again. Why, because thy took part in the training
exercise on live T.V.
The Roman Empire pacified it’s citizens, while declining, with bread and circus. You’d be hard
pressed to locate the bread; but, I think we’re seeing the 21st century version of public
government sponsored circus.

Yeah, unaccountability. Then, it makes reflect on just how powerful the media has grown
in this control mechanism. Hell, they nearly have the banksters beat out.
It’s they that weave the fabric, tell the tale, spin the tune. It’s they that make the people
believe: Anything, and without their co-operation, none of the last four decades of decline
would have been possible.
Conversely with all the powers of persuasion they wield, anything is possible.
They are the ultimate control mechanism. They can, and do, juxtapose reality and fantasy.
They control the better of the vast population of the planet. Evil is beholden to them at this
point. They are the heavy weight on the scale, the alpha in the symbiosis.
They have it all under control, and I would expect that they are now feared, even by
powers of greater might, which they could expose.
Years ago I met an old gent in Ireland, a professional observer of life, who refused to ever
look at a T.V again after viewing one once only briefly; because, he said, “They could
show you any god damned thing they wanted on that thing, and have you believin’ it”!
Truer words would be hard to come by.

Wow reality is truly stranger than fiction… Boston bombing or no…. Whatever happened there
(i have my own opinions but this is like…… SERIOUSLY ? REALLY? I never could/would have
thought there would be a career niche for amputee terror-exercise victims. Wow. Wouldn’t that
be kinda like, re-living real trauma for someone who is like an “industrial accident” victim?

Thanxs for this info Zen now this all makes sense. I was trying to figure out where the guy in
the wheelchairs real legs where. Well he is an amputee! Apparently we have all been cast in a
stage play called “America”, we should all then be paid an actors equity wage, at the very
least. We are being played for fools and they are not done with us yet, not by a long shot.

So Boston was a diversion from all the executive orders and laws passed by the obama
administration during those hours. Naturral News has the information on exactly what was
signed and passed during that time. When an “incident” be it real or contrived theater everyone
needs to see what is being made into “law” at that moment or soon after!

And then the crisis actor goes to the hospital and identifies the two bombers from pictures
then they’re executed? And these crisis actors aren’t called down for knowing right where to be
and when? All the huge backpaks on the Craft International guys that are never searched
repeatedly because they are withn two blocks of a major protected crowd gathering? Not even
when one with an identifying white symbol on top is set down and blows up they can leave
quickly? And then other crisis actors are allowed to enter the scene like the shredded clothes
Hulk guy upstairs who had no blood or cuts? If someone was hurt by that flashpot, this should
be prosecuted. Mixing in a live drill endangering the public is totally ignorant. Pretending it’s real
by the news media is evil and abhorrent to the idea of “Free Press”! We all know a hospital will
admit and bill one whether they’re hurt or not.

If the “injured” and “killed” at the Boston site were actors in a staged event, I seriously doubt
that all of them would remain silent about their roles after the staged event–especially after
many adverse effects would emerge from the staged event.

Having them “go live” gives more realism out in a Public place…in front of public
And they can try to change the laws that are unpopular with the people
People protect their own interests…always have, always will and at the expense of
