Yamada diaphragm pumps work using a simple method of operation. Liquid is pumped
using two diaphragms fixed to both ends of a centre rod. The rod is actuated by air
pressure. Four simple ball valves are used to control the circuit. Compressed air enters
air chamber A (shown above), moving the center rod to the right, forcing liquid out of
liquid chamber A, while at the same time drawing liquid into liquid chamber B. When the
centre rod is fully to the right the pneumatic logic system switches the supply of air from
air chamber A to air chamber B. the centre rod then moves to the left, forcing out the
liquid from liquid chamber B, while at the same time drawing liquid into liquid chamber A.
Through the repetition of this action a constant flow of liquid is achieved.

Understanding the performance curve
1. The solid lines plot the relationship between the dischargehead and the discharge volume at different supplied airpressures.
2. First determine which curve corresponds to the desired airpressure. For example if the air pressure you plan to use is0.5 MPa use the solid curve marked 0.5 MPa.
3. Next you must determine the desired discharge volume andthe required discharge head. For example if the requiredvolume is 30 L/Min with a discharge head of 30m you wouldfollow the appropriate straight axis to the point at whichthey meet, (point A).
4. This point falls inside the area defined by the 0.5MPa curveindicating that a pump (e.g. DP-20F) is adequate for thedesired discharge volume and discharge head.
5. If your required discharge volume is 35 L/min and thedischarge head is 30m the point where the axis’s meet,(point B) is outside the area defined by the 0.5 MPa curveindicating that such a pump is inadequate. In this case apump with a larger capacity (e.g. DP-25F) must be used.
6. The dashed lines plot curves for different air consumption
valves given in liters per min. Because point (A) describedabove is slightly over the 400Nl/m air consumption curve, ithas an approximate air consumption of 420Nl/m.
The performance curves above are of a pump using freshwater (1cPa.S,S.G.1.0) and flat suction, in normal conditions. The pumps discharge performance varies under differentconditions. For example the discharge volume changes due tothe liquids viscosity, specific gravity and slurry concentrationsetc. Other factors are suction lift, suction head and the frictionloss of pipes and fittings etc. For enquires please contactYamada or your nearest agent.
Note: A 1HP (0.75kw) air compressor is capable of discharging approximately 100NL/Min of air.

Friction head is the pressure expressed in meter of liquid or Mpaneeded to overcome the resistance to the flow in pipe and fittings.Property of liquid that resists any force tending to produce flow. It isthe evidence of cohesion between the particles of a fluid whichcauses a liquid to offer resistance analogues to friction.
Flow rate of viscous liquid is : ● In proportion to the 4th power of the pipe radius.● In proportion to the differential pressure between both pipe ends.●An inverse proportion to the pipe length.●An inverse proportion to the coefficient of viscosity.

PULSATION DAMPENER
AD SeriesThe Yamada pulsation dampener AD is used to prevent pulsationintrinsic to double diaphragm pumps. The AD is installed in thedischarge line and decreases the pulse action of the fluid causedby the reciprocating action of the pump. The AD also preventspipe vibration, protects filters, metering gauges, flow metersetc.metering device, metering pump combine with flow meter etc.

Pumping Hazardous ChemicalsThe recommended installation for the pump is to place is abovethe liquid source. One would rather lift a hazardous fluid thanhave a positive prime. 1. Loosing Prime: Upon a diaphragm rupture the fluid should fall
back down the suction piping due to the fact that the pump willloose its priming capabilities. This will keep the fluid fromdraining through the pump into the environment thus reducingthe likelihood of damage.
2. Center Body: This will help keep the fluid from rushing throughthe pump and destroying the center body. Please rememberthat many of the center bodies are Aluminum and a coating ofsome kind should be used to avoid deteriorating the body withaggressive fluids upon on rupture.
3. Suction Pressure: By keeping the system below 0.1 MPa inletpressure (with rubber, while PTFE is 0.05Mpa) one will avoidpremature diaphragm failure due to the stress this places onthe diaphragm. In addition you are helping the check balls sealand not float which can cause a severe decrease in pumpingefficiency not to mention pump life.

Diaphragm Pump Accessories
Diaphragm Rupture Sensor Kit. The Yamada Diaphragm rupture sensor isdesigned to protect pump against damage fromcorrosive, aggressive, or other harmful materi-als. Operated by standard line current, itautomatically disrupts air supply pres-sure to the pump and/or activatesalarm indicators such as horns andwarning lights the moment a diaphragmrupture or tear, is detected.
Electronic sensor installed in the bottom ofthe pump air chambers. In the event of adiaphragm rupture or tears, the resultingliquid build-up is detected by the sensor anda signal is transmitted to a remote mastercontroller. The controller, in turn, activatesany connected alarm systems, solenoidvalves, or other electronic devices.
Note: To install the sensor assembly amodification on the air chambersection is required.

■Operating principle If the air spool centers, the supplied compressed air is unable to be directed to either air chamber. Inthis situation the SVT Valve automatically detects the centering and immediately allows one side ofthe air valve to vent allowing the c-spool to cycle and returning the pump to normal operation.
1. Under normal operating conditions air will flow from the c-spool through one of the pilot valves andexhaust out to the atmosphere. This operation moves alternately from one pilot valve to the other.
2. When the c-spool is in the neutral position (stalled), air will not be diverted to a pilot valve and thepump will not operate. If this happens the air relief valve senses the pressure equalization and willvent one end of the c-spool out to the atmosphere.
3. With one end of the c-spool vented,low pressure at one end of the c-spoolwill cause it to move away from theneutral position and enable the pumpto commence normal operation.
