Industry

• aerospace specific services• aerostructures (e.g. wings, fuselages)• aircraft (fixed-wing):

– corporate jets– large civil aircraft– light, specialised and utility aircraft– regional jets

• aircraft (other):– airships and balloons– helicoptors– microlights and ultralights

• remote-controlled air vehicles

Indian Market

• The largest Indian aircraft manufacturer is Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) which is a Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) owned by the Government of India

• Pawan Hans Helicopters Limited (PHHL) is an ISO 9002 certified company under the Ministry of Civil Aviation

Indian Market

• Taneja Aerospace & Aviation Ltd (TAAL) is currently the only private sector aircraft manufacturing company in India. It manufacturers the P68C (a six-seat twin piston engine aircraft) and the Viator (an eleven seat turbo-prop aircraft). TAAL is also based in Bangalore

BOEING

• The Boeing Company is the largest aerospace company in the world, and the leader in manufacturing both commercial jetliners and military aircraft.

ERP being implemented within Boeing Commercial Airplanes

Currently co-exists with the Purchasing Control On-line System (PCOS), which is being phased out by airplane model

The initial release of ERP EDI occurred in November 1996. Purchase Orders and Purchase Order Changes were the first two transactions implemented.

A set of new EDI transactions to support Purchase Sales & Schedules (PSS) was initially released in July 2002.

Benefits Of EDI

• ¨ EDI reduces paperwork (forms handling), data entry labor costs, postage costs, and printing costs.

• ¨ EDI supports the concept of Just In Time (JIT) manufacturing by promoting improvement in flow time to enhance inventory control.

• ¨ EDI drives out inefficiencies in the business process.

Application Integration

• In addition to the traditional Purchase Order/Purchase Order Change transactions Purchase Schedule functionality has been added to enable Boeing to use alternative methods to communicate requirements.

Key Steps COMMERCIAL AIRPLANES

• The Commercial Airplanes Supplier Network EDI Group will provide the applicable documents (e.g. implementation guides/mapping specifications) to the trading partner.

Page 14: Aerospace Industry ERP Implementation Presented By : Vikas Yadav 59 Vikrant Tare 60 Vimal Raj Sharma 61 Vineeta Gupta 62

TRADING PARTNER

The trading partner must map to the new specifications (maps) provided by

Commercial Airplanes by:

a) mapping internally or

b) acquiring overlays from an EDI translation software provider

Page 15: Aerospace Industry ERP Implementation Presented By : Vikas Yadav 59 Vikrant Tare 60 Vimal Raj Sharma 61 Vineeta Gupta 62

Trading Partner Agreement

• Commercial Airplanes and its existing EDI suppliers have signed trading partner agreements that outline electronic business communications

Page 16: Aerospace Industry ERP Implementation Presented By : Vikas Yadav 59 Vikrant Tare 60 Vimal Raj Sharma 61 Vineeta Gupta 62

EDI Standards

• PSS ANSI X12

• UN/EDIFACT

This will enable all companies within the aerospace industry to use a common format

Page 17: Aerospace Industry ERP Implementation Presented By : Vikas Yadav 59 Vikrant Tare 60 Vimal Raj Sharma 61 Vineeta Gupta 62

EDI Integration Test

• The purpose of the integration testing is to confirm that the trading partner can successfully:

• Acknowledge an EDI transmission; • Translate between the ANSI X12 or

UN/EDIFACT format and native application files i.e. confirm the application data is mapped correctly

Page 18: Aerospace Industry ERP Implementation Presented By : Vikas Yadav 59 Vikrant Tare 60 Vimal Raj Sharma 61 Vineeta Gupta 62

TESTING

It is equally important

DURING TESTING for the trading partner to confirm their internal business processes are receiving the data they require, and can interpret the data and understand what data is being sent.

THEREFORE…

Aircraft builder implements ERP solution to help it drive new efficiencies in manufacture and provide immediate access to data throughout the production supply chain
