INTRODUCTION

What is global warming-

.Global warming is the rise in the average temperature of Earth's atmosphere and oceans since the late 19th century, and its projected continuation.

. Since the early 20th century, Earth's mean surface temperature has increased by about 0.8 °C (1.4 °F), with about two-thirds of the increase occurring since 1980.

.Warming of the climate system is unequivocal, and scientists are more than 90% certain that it is primarily caused by increasing concentrations of greenhouse gases produced by human activities such as deforestation and the burning of fossil fuels.

. These findings are recognized by the national science academies of all major industrialized nations.

CAUSES OF GLOBAL WARMING

• Carbon dioxide emissions from fossil fuel burning power plants

• Carbon dioxide emissions from burning gasoline for transportation

• Methane emissions from animals, agriculture such as rice paddies, and from Arctic seabeds

• Deforestation, especially tropical forests for wood, pulp, and farmland

• Increase in usage of chemical fertilizers on croplands

Causes of global warming

EFFECTS OF GLOBAL WARMING

. Rise in sea levels worldwide• More killer storms• Massive crop failures• Widespread extinction of species• Disappearance of coral reefs .Various diseases due to Ebola, hanta and machupo virus are expected due to warmer climates.

PROBLEMS FACED

We are all personally responsible for releasing carbon dioxide intothe atmosphere by burning fossil

fuels for transportation (driving and flying) and home

energy (electricity, heating, and cooling).

This leads to global warming, which is destroying Earth's biodiversity and

native ecosystems.

SOLUTIONS

• Reduce your use of fossil fuels• Protect native forests as "carbon storehouses"• Help plant native trees in urban and deforested areas• Volunteer for NWP• Donate to NWP. Based on NWP total program costs and

conservation project accomplishments since 1999, every $10 donation allows us to sponsor one Apprentice Ecologist and plant 3.1 native trees.

Benefits of planting native trees

• They help stop global warming by reducing greenhouse gases

• They reduce soil erosion and water pollution• They provide habitat for native wildlife

(including songbirds)• They improve human health by producing

oxygen and improving air quality• They reduce home energy needs by

providing shade in summer and a windbreak in winter

• Facts about the benefits provided by planting one tree

Page 8: A presentation on global warming newe

• Absorbs over a ton of harmful greenhouse gases over its lifetime

• Produces enough oxygen for four people every day

• Provides the equivalent cooling effect of ten room-size air conditioners operating 20 hours a day

• Provides an estimated $273 of environmental benefits in every year of its life

• SOLAR PANELS Can Help Fight Global Warming• Many efforts are being made by various

nations to cut down the rate of global warming. One such effort is the Kyoto agreement that has been made between various nations to reduce the emissions of various green house gases.

• Also many non profit organizations are working for the cause. Example :- Green Yatra.

CONCLUSIONS

CONCLUSIONS

• But an interesting side of the global warming episode is that there are people who do not consider global warming as something that is creating a problem. Skeptics of global warming think that global warming is not an ecological trouble. According to them earth's coastlines and polar ice caps are not at a risk of vanishing. Global warming skeptics consider that the weather models used to establish global warming and to forecast its impacts are distorted. Most of the global warming skeptics believe that the global warming is not actually occurring. They stress on the fact the climatic conditions vary because of volcanism, the obliquity cycle, changes in solar output, and internal variability. The variations are also a result of cosmic ray flux that is modulated by the solar magnetic cycles.
