Contemplation on Renunciation/Equanimity (Upeksa) Mind 觀捨無量心

Contemplate on Equanimity: Equanimity is the crown and culmination of the four sublime

states. 捨無量心是四無量心中最重要的一環 , 藏有無上的智慧。

Equanimity is a perfect, unshakable balance of mind, rooted in insight. 觀捨無量心 , 應用佛陀教導無邊的智慧 , 使我們不論在任何情境下 , 都能有個平衡及平靜的心態。

Equanimity requires us to be in the vigilant presence of Bodhi mind, not in the state of indifferent dullness; and requires us to understand kamma, causes and effects, and let go. 捨無量心需要我們培訓有個警覺 , 積極的心及要明白業力和因果。

Contemplation on Renunciation/Equanimity (Upeksa) Mind 觀捨無量心

Contemplate on Renunciation/Equanimity:Equanimity should be based on the Buddha’s teaching of no-

self. To establish equanimity as an unshakable state of mind, one has to give up all possessive thoughts of “mine”. 觀捨無量心時應無我人眾生壽者相 , 要放下所有與我有關的一切觀念。

Practicing renunciation requires us to understand the principle of impermanence, principle of non-self and the reality of existence and to fully pervade perfect equanimity. 觀捨無量心要觀法無我 , 觀心無常而達到清淨涅槃。

Contemplation on Renunciation/Equanimity (Upeksa) Mind 觀捨無量心

Contemplate on Renunciation/Equanimity:It is importance to realize that every matter does not possess

its own nature, and is thus transient and not real, subject to ever-changing conditions. Thus, we don’t attach them and let them go. 觀捨無量心時要知萬物本無自性 , 萬事萬物皆從因緣生而生 , 從因緣滅而滅。

Observing equanimity requires us to break up all kinds of greed, hatred and illusion. We are never controlled by emotions. Thus, we gain wisdoms to liberate others and ourself. 捨無量心可消除貪欲瞋恚愚痴之惑 , 可消除業

障 。

Chapter 10 The Adornment of Pure Lands第十品 莊嚴淨土分

The Buddha said to Subhuti, “what do you think? Was there any Dharma which the Tathàgata obtained while with Burning Lamp Buddha?” “No, World Honored One, there was actually no Dharma which the Tathàgata obtained while with Burning Lamp Buddha.” “Subhuti, what do you think, does a Bodhisattva adorn Buddhalands?” “No, World Honored One. And why? The adornment of Buddhalands is no adornment, therefore it is called adornment.”

佛告須菩提:「於意云何?如來昔在燃燈佛所,於法有所得不?」 「世尊!如來在燃燈佛所,於法實無所得。」 「須菩提!於意云何?菩薩莊嚴佛土不?」 「不也,世尊!何以故?莊嚴佛土者,則非莊嚴,是名莊嚴。」

Chapter 10 The Adornment of Pure Lands第十品 莊嚴淨土分

“Therefore, Subhuti, the Bodhisattva, Mahàsattva, should thus produce a pure heart. He should produce that heart without dwelling in forms. He should produce that heart without dwelling in sounds, smells, tastes, tangible objects, or dharmas. He should produce that heart without dwelling anywhere.”

「是故須菩提,諸菩薩摩訶薩應如是生清淨心,不應住色生心,不應住聲香味觸法生心,應無所住而生其心。 」

Chapter 10 The Adornment of Pure Lands第十品 莊嚴淨土分

“Subhuti, suppose a person had a body like Sumeru,

King of Mountains. What do you think, would that body be big?” Subhuti said, “Very big, World Honored One. And why? It is said by the Buddha to be no body. Therefore it is called a big body.”

須菩提、譬如有人身如須彌山 王。於意云何。是身爲大不。須菩提言。甚大世尊。 何以故。佛說非身、是名大身。

Chapter 11 The Supremacy of Unconditioned Blessings 第十一品無為福勝分

“Subhuti, if there were as many Ganges Rivers as there are

grains of sand in the Ganges River, what do you think, would the grains of sand in all those Ganges Rivers be many?” Subhuti said, “Very many, World Honored One. The Ganges Rivers alone would be incalculable, how much the more so the grains of sand in them.”

「須菩提!如恒河中所有沙數,如是沙等恒河,於意云何?是諸恒河沙寧為多不?」

須菩提言:「甚多,世尊!但諸恒河尚多無數,何況其沙!」

Chapter 11 The Supremacy of Unconditioned Blessings 第十一品無為福勝分

“Subhuti I will now tell you the truth. If a good man, or good woman, used the seven precious gems to fill three thousand great thousand world systems equal in number to the grains of sand in all those Ganges Rivers, and gave them as a gift, would he obtain many blessings?” Subhuti said, “Very many, World Honored One.” the Buddha told Subhuti, “If a good man, or good woman, were to receive and hold from this Sutra even so few as four lines of verse and speak them for others, his blessings and virtue would surpass the former’s blessings and virtue.”

「須菩提!我今實言告汝:若有善男子、善女人,以七寶滿爾所恒河沙數三千大千世界,以用布施,得福多不?」 須菩提言:「甚多,世尊!」佛告須菩提:「若善男子、善女人,於此經中,乃至受持四句偈等,為他人說,而此福德勝前福德。」

Case 25 The Hermit of Lotus Flower Peak Holds up His Staff 蓮花峰庵主拈拄杖

The hermit of Lotus held his staff up to a group and said, “When the ancients got here, why wouldn’t they stay?” No one spoke, so he himself answered, “ Because they did not gain power on the road.” He also said, “What about the ultimate (goal)?” Again he himself replied, “ With my palm-made staff across my shoulder, minding no one, I go straight into the myriad peaks.”

舉,蓮花峰庵主,拈拄杖示衆雲:“古人到這裏,爲什麽不肯住?”衆無語。自代雲:“爲他途路不得力。”複雲:“畢竟如何?”又自代雲:“榔粟橫擔不顧人,直入千峰萬峰去。”

Dust and sand in his eyes, dirt in his ears,He won’t stay in the myriad peaks.The falling flowers and flowing waters are very

extensive –Take a quick look – who knows where he’s gone?眼裏塵沙耳裏土,千峰萬峰不肯住。落花流水大茫茫,剔起眉毛何處去?

yuàn xiāo sān zhàng zhū fán năo

願消三障諸煩惱We wish to rid ourselves of the three hindrances and all klesas.

yuàn dé zhì huì zhēn míng lĭao

願得智慧真明了We wish to gain wisdom and real understanding.

pŭ yuàn zuì zhàng xī xiāo chú

普願罪障悉消除 We wish all sinful hindrances to be totally eradicated.

shì shì cháng xíng pú sà dào

世世常行菩薩道In one life after another we always follow Bodhisattvas’ paths.
