MEMBERS OF THE QUARTERCongratulations to the four members who have been selected as the Health and Wellness Center’s Members of the Quarter. Health and Wellness Center Members of the Quarter are recognized for their significant commitment to leading a healthy and happy lifestyle. This commitment can come in many forms including but, not limited to:

ȋ Regular, dedicated use of our facility ȋ Fitness Progress: measurements, weight, muscle mass, etc. ȋ Hard work with our personal training and/or group fitness staff ȋ Improved health through exercise and eating well ȋ Positive attitudes or acts of kindness that not only affect their own happiness, but also impact the happiness of those around them

Lisa CWhat brought you to the Health and Wellness Center (HWC)? I’ve been a member of lots of gyms and was interested in what this one had to offer. On my tour, I saw how nice and new it was, and I liked the perks of having an indoor track, towel service, and even lotion by the sinks. My main concern was the child care, and I quickly discovered that the kids have a great area in which to play and great people to take care of them. How often do you come to the facility and what is your routine while you are here? I go to the Wellness Center 3-4 days a week. What is/are your health and wellness goal(s)? Mainly I just want to maintain my level of fitness and feel healthy. I enjoy my time exercising and feel better afterward. I also wouldn’t mind losing the last 10 pounds of baby weight. What motivates you on your journey to good health? When I’m feeling stressed and anxious (and with 4 young children, that’s pretty much all the time!), I know that exercising and eating well is my best defense. I’m thankful for the wonderful ladies who work in the child care because having my daughter beg to go to the Health & Wellness Center makes it easy for me to go and know the kids are enjoying themselves while I get some much needed time to myself. What is one piece of advice you would share with someone who is beginning their journey to better health? Keep trying various classes and types of equipment until you find something you like. It’s so much easier to make yourself get to the gym if you’re doing something you enjoy.

What brought you to the Health and Wellness Center (HWC)? My roommate Rebekah was a member and she kept asking me to come and visit the gym. I kept saying no. One day, I went with her and I felt so comfortable there. I have never felt comfortable going to a regular gym. The atmosphere here is different. Very welcoming. How often do you come to the facility and what is your routine while you are here? So I go at least 3-4 times a week. I love the water classes especially the deep water class because I’m not afraid of drowning anymore thanks to Kim who taught me how to swim; something I’ve been trying to do all my life. I also go to HydroFit, Body Combat, CxWorks and Aqua Zumba. What are your health and wellness goals? My goal is to get stronger so I will be able to swim longer distances. I feel like I’ve been given a gift. I didn’t realize how empowering it would be to actually swim across the pool. I have chronic asthma and arthritis and I would like to be able to strengthen my lungs in order to swim laps without pausing. The warm water therapy pool is really good for my arthritis. I also want to try cycling. What motivates you on your journey to good health? I’ve realized that even though it’s hard to exercise, you actually feel energized afterwards. I’ve learned from going to the HWC how to eat healthy along with exercising. I’ve seen my body and mind change and I like what I see. What is one piece of advice you would share with someone who is beginning their journey to better health? Don’t be afraid to ask for help on your journey, we are all here for the same reason; to feel better and look better. Exercise is the best medicine for your health.

What brought you to the Health and Wellness Center (HWC)? When we became pregnant with out second child, I pledged to myself that I would get back into shape before he was born. When I told my wife, she surprised me with a membership for Father’s Day.How often do you come to the facility and what is your routine while you are here?I come to the facility 3-5 times a week and usually do some sort of weight training plus cardio. What motivates you on your journey to good health?First and foremost, my family motivates me. I want to remain healthy and active so that I can love on my little boys and my wife as long as possible. Exercising has been an important aspect of balance in my life as well. When I started a regular exercise routine, my ability to cope with daily stress improved greatly. What is one piece of advice you would share with someone who is beginning their journey to better health? Prioritize exercise as a necessity, not a luxury.

Giovanni G

What brought you to the Health and Wellness Center (HWC)?After our second child I decided it was time to start investing in being healthier and more fit so I could keep up with our 2 kids not only now, but in the future. I believe my health 20 years from now is partially determined by my health now. How often do you come to the facility and what is your routine while you are here?We come about 4 days a week. What are your health and wellness goals?I’ve been working towards getting back to where I was pre-kids, and just feeling stronger and healthier. Also, attending regularly is good for me mentally as it energizes me and decreases my stress. What motivates you on your journey to good health?I am on a lifelong pursuit of maintaining balance. Exercising helps me with that in so many ways. Also, having children heightened my sense of mortality, probably because I want to spend as much time on this earth with them as possible. So that motivates me to keep my body and heart strong. What is one piece of advice you would share with someone who is beginning their journey to better health?Be kind to yourself. DO SOMETHING. The more days I skip the more days I keep skipping. Carve a regular time out of your week and show up.

ȋ Highly experienced in all types of massage ȋ Sports massage therapist for professional soccer team ȋ Experience working with athletes at all levels and ages ȋ Success relieving pain from pulled muscles, sciatic pain, chronic headaches, tempromandibular joint disorder, limited range of motion, scar tissue, muscle fatigue and cramping, tendinitis, and plantar fasciitis

MASSAGE THERAPYOrdinary massage is used for relaxation. Sports Massage is detailed, focused, anatomically specific massage that targets and corrects your unique physical issues. Whether you’re an athlete nursing a chronic injury, a weekend warrior sore from overdoing it or a mom with back pain from toting a toddler, Sports Massage can help you.

An athlete’s peak performance may be dependent upon the proper use and application of Sports Massage. More than a treatment for injuries, Sports Massage produces overwhelming benefits for athletes of all levels physically, physiologically and psychologically. Some of those benefits include increased flexibility, toxin removal, pain reduction, accelerated muscle recovery caused by fatigue, injury recovery, scar tissue reduction, muscle spasm elimination, and providing a psychological edge that reduces anxiety.

Sports Massage can help prevent those nagging injuries that often get in the way of performance and achieving goals. Once an injury occurs due to overuse or overexertion, massage can help it heal quickly and effectively getting you out of pain and back to your full training regimen faster. The fact is that most athletes, in their quest to improve, ignore aches and pains until they turn into serious injuries. The longer a sports injury is ignored, the more susceptible it becomes to further strain and injury.

Massage has become an integral part of a total conditioning program in wellness centers, sports medicine clinics, college training rooms, professional locker rooms and Olympic training centers. More people are realizing that a complete workout routine includes caring for the wear-and-tear and minor injuries that naturally occur with strenuous movement.

Improve your workout and your outlook! Massage feels great; maybe that’s why people mistakenly consider it a luxury as opposed to what it really is - a necessary component of your fitness program. The Health and Wellness Center is excited to welcome our new sports massage therapist, Lisa Bricker, to our team. Please feel free to ask her how she can help with your aches and pains or stop by the front desk and schedule an appointment with her today!
