Engineering Staff College of India (ESCI) is an autonomous organ of India’s largest body of

professional engineers “The Institution of Engineers (India)”. ESCI was established in the year 1981

with the mandate of providing quality training and education in engineering and techno-management

domains

Inspired by innovation and governed by excellent council, ESCI strives to offer high quality

proficiency development programmes to engineers from industries, R&D labs, academia, public and

private organizations. ESCI conducts programmes in core engineering domains, inter-disciplinary

fields, customer-specified interdisciplinary areas and also in cutting edge technologies, at its

FOREWORD

Engineering Staff College of India (ESCI) is one of the premier Training Institutes in the country for

imparting Training in Irrigation, Power, Construction, Transportation, Roads & Building,

Environment, Information Technology, Management &Technology, Water Supply, Solid Waste

Management and Sewerage Treatment, etc.

The Institute is also taking up Consultancy Works, Testing of Materials and Third Party Verification apart from Skill Development in many disciplines for enhancing the employment potential.

The Institute is having well equipped Laboratories, Lecture Halls, Seminar Halls, good Infrastructure, Competent Faculty & Resource Persons. Residential accommodation is provided for all the trainees in the campus.

The Institute is also offering PGDM programme in Management and Infrastructure Management in collaboration with ISTTM and 100% placement record is achieved.

ESCI has signed collaboration agreement with Universities, Institutions, R&D Departments, IT/ ITES, Core Sector Enterprises, Government Agencies in various disciplines for Training, Consultancy and Management & Leadership Skills, etc.

The Training imparted by ESCI is well appreciated by International Agencies and we get many overseas participants. The Annual calendar is prepared for entire year and we offer Continuing

Professional Development Programmes (CPDPs) as well as Specific Training Programmes (STPs)

I. TRAINING PROGRAMMES

Domains:

a) Centre for Climate Change (CCC):

Engineering Staff College of India (ESCI) is a unique Institution established in October 1981 by "The Institution of Engineers (India)", the largest body of professional engineers in India.

The primary objective of ESCI is to impart professional and need-based continuing professional development and training in frontier areas of Engineering, Scientific and Management fields, simultaneously providing professional consultancy and technical services to the industry. ESCI's operations are firmly grounded in its desire to act as a bridge between academic institutions, R&D laboratories and organizations in the government, manufacturing & industry sectors to promote the growth and increased availability of latest know-how and expertise to professional engineers and managers in all these sectors. ESCI, as a unique centre for promotion of excellence in engineering, science and management, has been successfully fulfilling this role in today's fast changing technological world around us.

ESCI has completed more than three decades of glorious service to the nation in imparting continuing professional development training for the engineers, scientists and managers in engineering profession in various disciplines like Climate Change, Civil & Transportation, Environment Management, Information Technology, Management & Technology, Power & Energy, Quality & Productivity and Water Resources, besides providing consultancy services to the industry and government agencies

ESCI's core faculty in all the Engineering, Management and Science disciplines comprises of senior engineers, eminent scientists and teachers who have rich experience in the respective fields and collectively represent several decades of professional expertise. With vast experience in their areas of specialization both in industry and government, they are involved in carefully planning and conducting all activities of ESCI. In addition, ESCI derives faculty services (Visiting and Adjunct Faculty) from a large number of National and International Organizations of high repute. Faculties are also drawn from Industry, Consulting Firms, Government Organizations, Academic and Research Institutions.

Continuing Professional Development Programmes (CPDPs) formulated by ESCI are on the topics of current technologies in the following domains, in addition to Customized Training Programmes as needed by the Organisations.

Inaugurated in February 2009, with an objective to bring awareness on Climate Change and to promote the concept and implementation of the measures of Climate Change, Adaptation and Mitigation. The Centre offers training and consultancy in Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), Sustainable Development, Clean/Green Technologies and Green House Gas Inventorization. In addition to these CCC also undertakes Action Research Projects and Research & Development Projects for Climate Modeling, Climate Change Adaptation & Mitigation.

This division offers professional training in the areas of Construction Management, Road Technologies, Rural Road Technology for PMGSY Projects, Transportation Management, Road safety Management, Traffic Management, Project Management, Contract Management, Arbitration and Dispute Resolutions etc.

The division has imparted training for various Government Departments like Roads and Buildings, Municipal Corporations, Ministry of Transportation, Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Authorities, Ports, Housing Boards, Railways and Defence. The division has organized in-house programmes to Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation; SEW Constructions, Ramky Industries, Aparna Constructions & Estates Pvt. Ltd., ONGC, ISRO and Indu Projects, etc.

As part of promotion of training amongst member countries of International Network for Professional Engineers Development Institutes (INPEDI), training programmes on “Maintenance of Infrastructure” are being conducted by the division on regular basis both in India & abroad.

This Division imparts training for capacity building in the areas of Environment, Urban Water Supply and Sanitation. About 25 programmes are conducted per year with participants from all over the country, including WHO sponsored programmes and another in collaboration with Indian Bureau of Mines. Few consultancy assignments are being carried out. The division’s main domain areas are :

This includes, Environmental Legislations & Impact Assessment, Environmental Pollution Control & Waste Minimizations, Environment Management in various Sectors and Effluent Treatment Methods,

Water Supply Systems, Water Audit & Leakage Control, Instrumentation, SCADA, RS & GIS Applications, Underground Sewerage System, Sewage Treatment Plants and Storm Water Disposal, etc.

Some of the representative programmes are, Application of SCADA, RS&GIS, Software Applications (EPA Net & LOOP), Solid Waste Management, Biomedical & E-Waste Management, Environmental Regulations, Industrial Pollution Control and Waste Minimization Techniques, Urban Environment Management, PPP in Urban Local Bodies, Environmental Issues in - Power Plants, Cement Industry, Highway Sectors, Distillery, Dairy & Textile Industries, Water & Waste Water Management in Paper and Pulp Industries.

This Division offers highly focused and advanced training modules in diverse areas of Information Technology. It also amalgamates the new concept of Enterprise System Management (ESM). The training programmes are the growing needs of IT professionals proficient in the Administration of Enterprise Systems, Databases, Networks, Security, Storage Area Networking, Web Designing, Software and ERP.

Domain Areas of this division are:- IT Infrastructure Management, Cyber Security, Software Applications Development. Some of the representative programmes are:-

Linux / Windows Server Administration, Ethical hacking, IT Security, Auto CAD, CRM technologies, Network designing, Software Quality and Testing, Paperless Organization, Network Monitoring, Oracle 11g / 12C forms and Reports, Backup and Recovery Technologies and Application of IT in various sectors.

A large number of software and hardware Engineers and non-engineers from various Public Sector Organizations like Power Grid Corporation, NMDC and Defence participated in the programmes.

ESCI being recognized as Resource Institute (RI) and Partner Training Institute (PTI) under “Restructured Accelerated Power Development Reform Programme (R-APDRP)” - Ministry of Power, GoI, the division has contributed for the theme on “IT General”

ESCI has the core competency to conduct Continuing Professional Development Programmes (CPDPs) and special Tailor-made Training Programmes in the disciplines of both Management and Technology. The objective of the programmes is to disseminate the latest and most advanced technologies in various fields of engineering disciplines and also the best and most pragmatic and contemporary management practices.

(a) Management: General Management, Human Resource Management, Financial Management, Operations Management, Organizational Behavior, Marketing & Customer Relationship Management, Material Management, Technology Management, Project Management, Knowledge Management etc. The list is indicative but not exhaustive. In addition the division conducts various programmes on soft skills which are mandatory for the growth of an individual as well as the organization.

(b) Technology: Mining Technology, Power Generation Technology like Supercritical technology, Welding Technology, NDT Techniques, Corrosion Techniques & Surface Engineering, Vibrations, Balancing of Heavy Rotating Machineries, Condition Monitoring Techniques, Pumps, Heat Exchangers and Pulverizes, Tools and Cutting Parameters, etc. to name a few.

Some of the representative programmes are:-Leadership, Communication Skills, Corporate Social Responsibility, Operations Management concepts applied across different sectors, technological developments in Welding, Process Instrumentation, Non-Destructive Testing, Tool Design, Condition Monitoring etc.

As PTI under R-APDRP, the division has contributed for the theme on “Materials Management & Quality Assurance”.

The training programmes delivered by this division cover the areas of Generation, Transmission, Distribution, Power Systems Protection, Power Trading, Smart Grids Distribution, Digital Control Systems and Regulatory aspects etc. Apart from open programmes in these areas, the division can deliver any customized programmes as per the client’s requirement in the above areas either at ESCI or at client’s location.

The Division conducts induction training programmes for new recruits in utilities / industry as per the client’s requirement. Customized programmes and Induction Training Programmes were conducted for various power utilities like MSETCL, PSPCL, Torrent Power Ltd., NHDC, CSEB and GETRI, etc.

As PTI under R-APDRP, the division has contributed immensely for six(6) themes.

Some of the typical programmes delivered are:- Power System Protection, 400 KV / 220 KV Substations Design & Construction, Earthing Practices in Electrical Substations, Reactive Power Management in Power Systems, Pilferage of Electricity, Detection & Prevention, Best Practices in Selection, Laying and Maintenance of Underground Cables, Technology Advances in Metering, Billing and Collections, Failure of Transformers and Remedial Measures, Electricity Safety Procedures and Accident Prevention, Best Practices in Distribution System, Operation & Maintenance, Energy Audit and Loss Reduction in Distribution Systems, Distribution Privatization, Franchisee Models, Power Trading, Power Exchanges and Merchant Power Plants, Best Practices in O&M of Gas Turbines, Renovation and Modernization of Hydro Power Stations etc.

The objective of the Quality & Productivity division is to design and conduct training programmes for different sectors to improve Quality of Products & Services. The courses offered are related to continual improvement in systems, products & processes applying various latest Quality improvement tools and methods. The domain areas of the division are:

(a) System related: Quality Management System, Environment Management System, Occupational Health and Safety Management System, Business Continuity Management System, Food Safety Management System, NABL Laboratory Accreditation, Integrated Management System,Information Security Management System, CE Marking.

(b) Function Related: Training Function-Training Needs Analysis, HR Function- Total Quality in HR Process, Purchase function- Total Quality in Purchasing, R&D - Total Quality, Laboratory-Calibration, Measurement Uncertainty, Marketing - Measurement of Customer Satisfaction.

(c) Quality Management Tools Related: Six sigma Green Belt & Black belt, Mistake proofing -Poka Yoke, Quality Circles, Lean, Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), Bench Marking, Automotive Core tools.

(d) Sector Related: Power, Construction, Technical Education, Pharma, Hospital & Healthcare, Municipal Administration & I T.

The organizations benefited from the above programmes are Tata Power, BHEL, Nuclear Fuel complex, Integral Coach Factory, BESCOM, NIT's, Ramky Infrastructure, Neyveli Lignite Corporation, DRDO labs, Aurobindo Pharma, SCCL, CARE Hospital, CMPDI, Bharat Dynamics Ltd., MSPGCL, KSEB, GETRI, NHPC, OPTCL, KPTCL, Air Force, ONGC, SAIL, WIPRO, BEST undertaking. South Central & North Eastern Railways, LANCO Infra etc.

The Areas of Specialization of Water Resources Development division include:-

Integrated Water Resources Management, Rural Water Supply & Sanitation, Flood Computation Management, Dam Safety, Irrigation Systems Management, Integrated Watershed Management, Total Station GIS & GPS Applications in Water Resources Development etc are few representative programmes of the division.

Participants from various State & Central Government departments like Irrigation and Command Area Development, RWS&S, APSIDC, Housing Boards and Government undertakings participate in the programmes conducted by the division.

This new cell has been opened in line with the national policy on ‘Make in India’ and accordingly trains engineers, managers and entrepreneurs on advanced materials and materials engineering. The focus of the Cell is in Additive Manufacturing-3D Printing (AM-3DP), Direct Metal Laser Sintering (DMLS), advance powder processing routes for high quality traditional and advanced ceramics and coatings, Nano materials, and strategic materials for nuclear, defence and aerospace applications. The Cell has also taken up initiatives to popularize peaceful application of nuclear energy, including nuclear power for electricity generation and non-electric applications and use of radiation and radioisotopes in food & agriculture, healthcare & medicine, industry and research.

II ACADEMIC

With an objective to impart corporate level training to the fresh engineering / AMIE graduates in line with the job requirements of Corporate Organizations and to enhance the professional skills of working engineers in various engineering sectors all over India as "Global Market Responsive Trained Professionals", ESCI has established "Corporate Relations Cell".

The role of CRC is to explore and analyze the induction requirements for placement to the fresh engineering graduates and training needs of various MNCs to enhance the professional skills of their working engineers and accordingly impart required training to the personnel to meet the challenges in the unbounded world of tomorrow and to be the front line interface between academia, research, industry and other sectors in advanced Engineering/ Tech. applications and Key enabler in fostering High and Thrust area programmes.

Core focus of this centre is on design, analysis and prototyping activities that are central to product development of various industrial sectors. Specifically, the programmes of DPC deal with application of CAD, FEM, CFD, RP and additive manufacturing processes. This centre also conducts short-term certification programmes for engineering professionals in 3D Printing.

Skill Development Cell is associated with National Skill Development Corporation to focus on upgradation of skill to international standards through significant industry involvement and to develop necessary framework and standards for training of youth of this country.

The Objectives of this cell is to encourage proficiency and skill development of youth by conducting approved training programs in different sectors and providing monetary rewards on successful completion. SDC enhances the professional skills in the semi-skilled and unskilled labor in various job roles and is intended to develop and certify skills as per industry standards. SDC staff attended Training of trainers program in Telecom Sector.

SDC is having affiliation with six(6) different skill sector councils of NSDC such as Agriculture Skill Council, Automotive Skill Development Council, Telecom Sector Skill Council, Retailers Association Skill Council, Rubber Skill Development Council and Construction Skill Sector Council for imparting training in 27 job roles.SDC has taken up Skill Training Programmes for Electronics Sector under the “Electronic System Design & Manufacturing (ESDM) scheme.

SDC has been empanelled by the Quality Council of India for conducting “Comprehensive Solution for Training and Assessment using online mode.

ESCI - SPGS conducts AICTE approved two year full time Post- Graduate Diploma in Infrastructure Management, covering the areas of Power & Energy, Transport, Telecommunications, Civil, Water and Urban Development. Objective of this is to develop cadre of Techno Managers, by enhancing the managerial skills among the engineers to meet the requirement of fast growing infrastructure in the country. Another AICTE approved two year full time PGDM (General) is also being conducted by the school.

ESCI provides consultancy services to suit the requirements of clients in all engineering and management disciplines. ESCI's group of thoroughbred consultants with their proven expertise execute these assignments and co-opt experts as and when required.

AP Agro is utilizing the services of ESCI for setting-up Permanent Farm Mechanization Display Centers in 11 Districts.

AP Forest Department is also utilizing the services of ESCI for 3rd party Quality Assurance and Supervision for construction of Protection Wall and Residential quarters.

Preparation of DPR for Palamuru Ranga Reddy LI Scheme including detailed investigation, designs of electro-mechanical works, preparation of estimates and R&R Plan etc., was awarded to ESCI by Government of Telangana on nomination basis in August 2014.

The consultancy project was successfully completed within the timeframe. Based on the performance, Government of Telangana further awarded additional works for preparation of DPR to irrigate 10 lakh acres of ayacut by lifting 90 TMC from Srisailam Project and to irrigate 3.41 lakh acres of Ayacut by lifting 30 TMC of water from Dindi Project in Mahabubnagar, Rangareddy and Nalgonda districts.

Dr Chaitanyamoy Ganguly did his graduation and PhD in Metallurgical Engineering from Bengal Engineering College, Shibpur, now known as Indian Institute of Engineering Science & Technology (IIEST) and post graduation in nuclear science and engineering from BARC Training School, now known as the Homi Bhabha National Institute (HBNI). He is a Humboldt Fellow and did his pre – and post doctoral research on nuclear fuels at the Nuclear Research Centres at Karlsruhe and Juelich in Germany.

An INSA senior scientist and an INAE-AICTE Distinguished Visiting Professor at Jadavpur University, Kolkata Dr Ganguly is a retired Distinguished Scientist of the Dept of Atomic Energy, Govt of India. He has been former Chairman & Chief Executive, Nuclear Fuel Complex, Hyderabad and former Head, Radio Metallurgy Division BARC, Mumbai.

Dr Ganguly was also Director of CSIR - Central Glass and Ceramic Research Institute at Kolkata and served the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) at Vienna, as Head of Nuclear Fuel Cycle and Materials Section. Dr Ganguly worked for Cameco Corporation, Canada, the largest uranium mining and nuclear fuels service company in the world as President of Cameco India. Until recently, he was Distinguished Visiting Professor at IIT Kanpur and senior professor at BITS – Pilani, Goa.

He is the author of more than 250 research papers and has guided several PhD and M Tech thesis in IISC, Bangalore, IIT Mumbai, University of Mumbai and Osmania University. Dr Chaitanyamoy Ganguly is a Fellow of the Indian National Science Academy, Indian Academy of Science, Indian National Academy of Engineering, Indian National Academy of Science, Institution of Engineers, Indian Institute of Metals and Indian Institute of Ceramics. He is the recipient of National Metallurgist Award of the Ministry of Steel and Mines, the Tata Gold Medal of the Indian Institute of Metals, the MRSI Medal, the Vasvik Award and was conferred the “Padmashri” in 2002 by the Honourable President of India and has also received the Indian Nuclear Society Award from the Honourable Prime Minister of India in 2003.

He retired. as a Vice President (Operation & Maintenance) of a Manufacturing company. Certified Energy Auditor. He conducts training programmes on Operation and Maintenance of Transformers & Earthing in Electrical Installations..He has conducted Extensive Energy auditing in Hotel Industries, Manufacturing industries and also worked as 3rd party Energy Auditor for CII. He is in the Panel of Energy Auditors of KPMG, Noida. He is Fellow Member of IE(I).

Mr. G.D. Ojha, is B.E. Civil, M.Tech Hydraulics & Water Resources from NIT Warangal. He has rich experience of 40 yrs. in domains related to Water Resources with credentials of serving Central / State Govt. Organisations in various capacities upto the rank of Regional Director, Central Ground Water Board. In addition to Administration and Supervision of several Water Resource Projects of national importance he also contributed to numerous quality publications.

Mr. D. Sheshadri is B.Tech in Electronics and Communications Engineering from JNTU, Hyderabad. He served 30 years in BHEL - Corporate R&D and retired as AGM. His areas of interest are QMS audits/review, Certified supplier assessor, Internal ISO Auditor, EMS Auditor and Examiner / Assessor for National Quality Award.

Gp. Capt. (Retd) B.S. Phillora was commissioned in to the Aeronautical Engineer (Electronics) Branch in the Indian Air Force in Jul 1975. He did his Graduation in Electronics & Telecommunication Branch from GEC, Jabalpur and Post Graduation in MMS (Defence Studies) and M Phil in Strategic Management from Osmania University. During his service career spanning over 34 years, he has the credit of having served in almost all weapon Systems of Indian Air Force.

He also led delegations of Service personnel on two missions, one in erstwhile USSR, and later in Israel. He also served in Indian Peace Keeping Force. He was Chief Engineer in two important Air Defence Direction Centre of IAF and Commanded Prestigious Radio Maintenance Unit of Western Air Command, IAF. He was founder Member of one of the important Tri Services commands.

He served as Director Signal (Air) at Air HQ. He was Directing Staff and HoD of Project Management Department for four years at the prestigious College of Defence Management. He is also certified lead auditor for ISO 9001:2008 Standard. He is recipient of Commendation from Chief of Air Staff and CISC IDS. He is Fellow Member of IE(I).

Mr. Nikhil Chowdary heads the Design & Prototyping Centre (DPC) in ESCI, Hyderabad. The DPC focuses on using 3D Printing and 3D Scanning technologies for a variety of applications. Under his leadership the DPC is involved in several activities related to design & development of a wide range of products from custom orthotics to smart connected electronic devices and nuclear power generation for a diverse clientele. As a believer in 3D technologies to enable humankind he is eager to educate people in its wondrous possibilities and has launched educational programs which are open to all. He holds a Master's in Project Management from LIU, NY, USA and a B.E. in Mechanical Engineering from Osmania Uni., Hyderabad.

Mr. N Laxman Rao was born in 1945. He completed his post graduation in Science from Osmania University in1967.

He joined Accountant General (Andhra Pradesh) office in 1968. During his service career spanning over 35 years, he worked at different cadres in the State Government of Andhra Pradesh and retired as Assistant Financial Advisor to Government of earlier Andhra Pradesh in 2003.
